Absolutely not! He is not even the greatest manager in the history of the Cincinnati Reds! Sparky Anderson was a 100% better manager than Lou! John Mcgraw is probably the greatest manager in the history of the national league and Casey Stengel had a dominate stretch with the New York Yankees as well as Joe McCARTHEY! Tony Larussa is probably the best manager in the game today taking an underachieving St. Louis Cardinals team to a World Championship last year! He also had a dominate stretch as manager of the Oakland A's!

Yes, Lou is the greatest manager...in Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Seattle Mariners history! If you are referring to his standing all-time, I would say no. Many people would site Joe McCarthy (New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs), Connie Mack (Philadelphia A's), Casey Stengel (New York Yankees, New York Mets), Bobby Cox (Atlanta Braves, Toronto Blue Jays), or John McGraw (New York Giants) as the greatest manager of all-time. However, Billy Martin gets my vote, simply because he turned around five teams (1969 Minnesota Twins, 1972 Detroit Tigers, 1974 Texas Rangers, 1977 New York Yankees, 1981 Oakland A's) from losers (or in the Yankees case, a team on the cusp of greatness) the season before into contenders. To me, that makes a great manager.

of direction no longer. I hate the Cubs yet Piniella is a competent supervisor. and you certainly can no longer choose him on the interest he did with a type team in Tampa. As for the Cubs, they weren't almost as stable because of the fact the television bigshots needed them to be. the television people love whilst those huge industry communities make it deep into the playoffs and the worldwide series. The N.L. huge-unfold wasn't that stable this 365 days. The Astros and Cardinals are not as stable as they have been a pair of years in the past. Milwaukee has greater yet isn't that large. And the Pirates and Reds are nevertheless on the backside.

Sorry I'm a Cubs fan and don't think Lou is the greatest manager, good maybe. Right now Bobby Cox would get my vote, look at what he is done in Atlanta.

Pinella is a great manager, but not the greatest. you would have to put some one like sparky anderson (cincinnati reds, detroit tigers) billy martin (twins, tigers, rangers, yankees, and a's) tommy lasorda( Dodgers) tony larusa(A's,Cardinals, and a few more that i cant think of) and the list could go on and on.

The numbers are definately in his favor. He is famous for managing a very dominant team in Seattle for many years. However, look at the roster of those teams; Alex Rodriguez, Ken Griffey Jr., Edgar Martinez, and Randy Johnson, just to name a few, and how many World Series titles did Seattle have to show for it? NONE!
He moved on to a very lowly franchise in Tampa Bay where no one can be expected to win and we'll give him that.
Now that he is in Chicago, where many people expected them to at least play o.k. the team appears to be falling apart.
