Ok, so the 3,000 hits is a given...but the 300 homers will be very, very close...and that's a VERY exclusive club...only NINE PLAYERS in baseball history have at least 300 dingers to go with their 3000 hits.

He is at I beleive 284 right now, so he'd need 16 more this season. He already has 3. So he'd need 19 this year....he's had in the low-20's the last few years. The talk seems to be he's going for the 3,000 hits, and then calling it a career after this year. BUT, if he ends the year with say, 299 homers...do you think enough people will take notice of how close he is to the 3000/300 club to inspire him to come back and try to crack that too?

I say this because it seems that fans are very passionate about baseball, and they seem like religion in some cities like Boston, New York, and St. Louis.

I work at a major league baseball stadium. Yesterday I saw a father bring his yound son to the game and the little guy was so excited. By the end of the 6th inning the father was so drunk he no longer cared that his little boy was even there. The little guy wanted something to drink and was told it was to expensive but yet he had enough money to buy one more beer. I always thought baseball was a family sport.

Prime example here, Jack Cust was just traded to the A's from my Padres for a player to be named later. What exceltly does that mean, how does a trade work like that. Also is that based on his performance before the trade or after. Jack Cust was a nobody before the trade and he went to the A's and homered 6 times in 7 games (I know this is only one week, but if he were to keep up a decent pace he could end up with 30+ homers this year, and the Padres gave him up for nothing?) Say it does turn out that he hits 30+ homers this year can we take him back, or at least get someone really good for him? Or did the Padres just let go a good player for nothing in return?

I think it is Babe Ruth and not Hank Aaron or Barry Bonds. It took Aaron 4000 more at bats to get only 41 more home runs than Ruth. It took Bonds 1500 more at bats than Ruth to reach 714. So you tell me how Ruth isn't the true home run king.

One year a team wins the World Series then the next year they come in last place. The St. Louis Cardinals could do that this year. I would like to know how many times this has happened.
