I'm doing a research paper on the ***** Leagues and I need to know why they were made and why they were important. I NEED sources. I mean I know because it is common knowledge but I can't find it anywhere.

They formed because baseball was a segregated sport. Other than that fact, here is a brief history of the short-lived "***** Leagues."

The ***** Leagues were a collection of Baseball teams set up so African Americans could play Baseball. Back in the early 1900's like most things Baseball was segregated, and only white players could play. The ***** leagues gave black baseball players a chance to play. the color barrier was broken by jackie robinson which opened the door for more black players in the majors.
