In one game , Bob Gibson struck out 17 Tigers in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series and Whitey Ford struck out 94 for the overall record/

On Oct. 2 1968 Bob Gibson of the St. Louis Cardenals struck out 17 Detroit Tigers in the first game of the world series that year. Its a world series record.

I remember reading a story by Tim McCarver (who caught Carleton in that game), in which he kept trying to go out to the mound to get Carleton to look at the announcement on the scoreboard that Carleton had just set a new WS K record, and being shooed back to his position by Carleton.
