McGwire Great, but He Won't Get This Vote
Cheaters Just Don't Belong in Cooperstown

Baseball will hold its first referendum on steroids in January. That's what Mark McGwire's first appearance on the Hall of Fame ballot amounts to.

McGwire won't get in this year. That's pretty much a lock based on conversations with my colleagues.

Whether he ever gets in is another story. This year's balloting might reveal how Barry Bonds , Raffy Palmeiro, etc., will be treated when they're eligible.

At some point, all of us who cast ballots are hoping for some clarity on the issue of steroid use.

I've said I won't vote for Mark McGwire or any other player who I believe used steroids. They are cheats. Period. Using performance-enhancing drugs is a health risk and compels other players to take the same risk. It sends a terrible message to kids.

How would you vote on the issue of Mark McGwire being inducted into Baseball's Hall of Fame?

I think Manny Ramirez will be traded to Phillies for Pat Burrell and Danny Sandoval or Cole Hamels.

I am thinking the White Sox will win the division as Liriano will be out for a year and the Tigers will probably not do as good this upcoming season due to frustration.

I say he should. Steroid use is purely speculative, as he has never admitted it or tested positive for it.

after a player retires from baseball, he has to wait a certain number of years to be eligible to go into THe Baseball Hall Of Fame. Why is there a waiting time for players to get on the ballot? And, after a player is on the ballot, is there a timeline for when his name is erased from the ballot just because he hadn't be elected for such a long time.

I think so. he was the soul of the Yanks from 95 to 2001, he played every game like it was his last, and his 4 WS rings, along with the one he won in Cincy are among the best... Not counting he´s my favorite Yankee player from the last dinasty.
Your thoughts?
