I played all the positions on my high school team, Catcher was far and away the hardest.
You try sitting on your knees for three hours then try to round the bases on a double, its tough

Catcher is considered the toughest.

He's suppose to be the on field captain. He's the only one on the team that can see the whole field all the time - no matter what's happening out there. Part of his job is to direct traffic. If a scribbling ground ball is hit between the pitcher and 3rd basemen (with a man on first) - it's suppose to be his job to yell on who makes the play and where to throw.

On throws from the outfield, with a runner heading home and the frist baseman positioning himself - the catcher is suppose to verbally direct the first basemen because his back is to home plate.

Pitchers are not suppose to think on the mound and it's suppose to be the catchers job to essentially call every single pitch. He becomes the opposing teams worst nightmare because he knows their every weakness. He becomes the pitching staff's psychologist.

From positioning outfielders (because he knows what's being thrown to the plate) to doing the same with infielders.

The catcher is the field leader - the team's on field manager.

You find a catcher that can lead a team this way and add defense and a strong/quick release - he's the talk of baseball.

I would have to say Catcher, because they have to handle the position players, pitchers, base runners, getting ready to field a pitch, stealing bases and so many differnt things. Thats why I am always surprised when the pitcher gets all the credit and blame for the game, it should be on both the catcher and pitcher. I know the pitcher is still throwing the pitch and has more control over it but the catcher still called it.

Read my entire entry before disagreeing. The DH "Position" is clearly the "most difficult," A good hitter in the MLB hits roughly .300, correct? what would that imply? I'll answer, it says that this hitter is failing 7 out of 10 times. Since the DH only has one job and when he does this job he fails 70 percent of the time, I would say that he has the toughest position. He has no other job but hitting so he can never increase his chance at success but in the batter's box. For example, We could say a shortstop has the most difficult posistion on the field because he gets the most balls hit to him, but, I would say even the worst fielding shortstops in the major leagues field around 85 percent of the balls that are hit to them, making their job very very easy compared to the DH who is failing almost every attempt at sucess he may get. When the shortstop combines his successes in the field combined with those sucesses at bat, his success rates of his "position"/job is going to be way Higher than compared to the DH Position.

Catcher, he's got to know the whole pitching staff's arsenal, take signs from the managers and still keep his eyes on his teammates positioning and any baserunners while squatting in a not so comfortable position.

Most would say Catcher, because not only do you need to know how to have your pitcher throw to the batter, but he also has to pay attention to the guys on base, calm down the pitcher when he isn't pitching good

The manager...I know, he is not playing, but he has the hardest job of all. If the team loses he loses his job and he has to try to balance all those different personalities and figure out a WINNING FORMULA
