Baseball - August 2006

Because only real men catch baseballs, and it's the wussy's with soft hands that can't hold on, or don't have the coordination. I once sat next to a kid and he got hit in the face with the ball. I was drinking, and I didn't feel like dropping my beer to catch a baseball, and he took it right in the face. His dad wanted him to go see the Nurse. I thought, what a loser. Might as well dress the boy in a a mini skirt.

event, and then they play God Bless America in the 7th inning. What a joke. It's a baseball game, which is all about nachos and cheese, taking your cell phone and waving to the camera like an idiot, pretzels and beer, and cursing at the players, and getting really drunk and ordering 12 beers at last call in the bottom of the 7th and hoping for extra innings and not even knowing who won.

I am a huge baseball fan, and being a Canadian living an hour outside of Toronto, I am consequently a Blue Jay fan. What I notice is that whenever I watch an american sports show like this week in baseball..it's like the blue jays aren't even a team...not impartial regard, but nonpartial ignoring of their existance bestill my heart if they ever made a play of the day or even a lousy byline...what's the deal? Last time I checked they were a major league team with a majority of their players americans.

My wife, who's originally from Eastern Europe, has never shown any interest in watching or learning the rules of baseball until this season (go Tigers!). She's asked me to explain the game to her, but every time I begin, her eyes start to glaze over. Is there a website or other resource I might use to help her out? Something that starts from the ABSOLUTE basics would be ideal.
