event, and then they play God Bless America in the 7th inning. What a joke. It's a baseball game, which is all about nachos and cheese, taking your cell phone and waving to the camera like an idiot, pretzels and beer, and cursing at the players, and getting really drunk and ordering 12 beers at last call in the bottom of the 7th and hoping for extra innings and not even knowing who won.

I actually took a college course on the subject of baseball. It's a game, not some political festival where we all put out our right hand to the sky and say Hail Hitler, because that's what it feels like to me. Just play ball and stop with the patriotic gimmicks. If you want goosebumps because you are an American, visit DC or Gettysburg.

The Star Spangled Banner, is the National Anthem of the United States. It's played or sung, in the US, before every sporting event.
God Bless America has become the 7th inning song in Yankee stadium. Take me out to the Ball Park, is the 7th inning song you'll hear most often.
Cheering on your team = Number one.
Cursing at opposing players = Number one, when not cheering for your team.
Baseball game Food: It's all about the hot dog or frankfurter, if you're lucky, then 12 beers, then peanuts, then maybe an ice cream. Whoever introduced you to baseball games, where eating nachos covered in crap whiz you pressed a button to get, not only carrying, but talking on a cell phone, while paying attention to the fan cam,... is a real fool. It may take years of therapy(or 2-3 baseball games, done right) to reverse this condition.
If you leave a game and don't know who won, either you live in Los Angeles and left in the 7th to beat traffic or you had more than 12 beers, ran naked onto the field, arrested and placed in a cell w/o TV or radio.
In any event, the National Anthem should be the least of your concerns.
Do you bring a glove to the game too??? Don't be that guy...

You obviously have no clue what baseball is about. Any true baseball fan understands the game within a game.
All you did is point out the some of the rude spectators that go to games. I got bad news for you, this happens at every sporting event.
Baseball is as American as apple pie and George Washington. And therefore the national anthem is played before every game. The God Bless America thing did not start until 9/11.
If you do not like it, dont watch it or go to it. More seats for me! This sounds more like a statement then a question.

In 1916, Woodrow Wilson ordered that "The Star-Spangled Banner" be played at military and other appropriate occasions. Although the playing of the song two years later during the seventh-inning stretch of the 1918 World Series is often noted as the first instance that the Anthem was played at a baseball game, evidence shows that the "Star Spangled-Banner" was performed as early as 1897 at Opening Day ceremonies in Philadelphia and then more regularly at the Polo Grounds in New York beginning in 1898. Today, the anthem is performed before the first pitch at every game.

Of all the major sports baseball depends on tradition the most .The playing of the Star Spangled Banner is a large part of that tradition as is the 7th innning stretch.
What you don't realize about the Star Spangled Banner [ possibly due to a drunken haze] is that the song is a question. "Oh say ,does that star spangled banner yet wave over the land of the free and the home of the brave ?" Every time that you sing it you answer the question with a resounding " Yes it does"

Started at all games during WWII. I don't mind that. I do not like that they play god bless america in the 7th. Baseball is getting too political now. Taking your cell phone and waving to the camera? If you were sitting near me, I would shove that phone in you ear. You are one of the annoying people. Getting really drunk? I would roll you on the way out just for laughs. I do not attend MLB games anymore because of people like you.

Because baseball is an American game. Created by an American. While we don't dominate the game worldwide like we did at one time (and still should in my opinion). It is still played in everytown in the US on a daily basis.
Besides with your opinion of what a baseball game is all about, perhaps they should play O'Canada or God Save the Queen?
And for the guy below me....mindless sheep? Yeah thats the reason. I got a ticket for you, to anywhere in the world you'd rather be than the US.

I love how you try to get logical and philisophical about it. But, unfortunately, there is one big hole in your argument...it's not only baseball. They sing the "Star Spangled Banner" before every sporting event in the country, football, basketball, hockey, even large gatherings like county fairs and such. And not only that, they sing "Oh Canada" when it is a team from Canada playing as well. And not only that, but many European countries have adopted the practice as well, in France, Poland, Italy, Greece, they play the national anthem before sporting events. Learn about your argument before putting it forth. You may be right that sports indeed are not supposed to be patriotic political gatherings, but don't focus on baseball and dont focus on Americans, it's worldwide.

They play the National Anthem before any sporting event, from pro sports to Little League baseball games. It's a national tradition, but it's also intended to remind us that there are things more important than a sporting competition.
Not that anybody believes that, of course.

It's a sporting event, so they have to play the anthem before it.
But I do agree that they should quit playing God Bless America. The original reasoning for doing that has long since expired. Now most ballparks (particularly minor league parks) use it to glorify the war. That isn't right.

Maybe this is the problem with America today, morons like you who don't' care one bit about showing patriotism or love of country. Just stay at home and get drunk. I'll got to work and pay my taxes so you can be a drunken slob.
God Bless America, it troops, it leaders, it citizens, and even it's baseball fans.
