2006 Detroit Tigers have a losing record VS. Red Sox, Yankees, Angels, White Sox.
While 47 of their 76 wins(apx 62%) were against: KC Royals, Indians, Twins and inter league play.
They will get into the playoffs, but I'm not so sure they can win a series vs. any of the teams they will likely face...
I agree, next year they suck again.

The Tigers are playing extremely well. They played the hottest team in baseball two weeks ago, the Minnesota Twins at Minneapolis and won the first two games and should have won the third. Then tonight they beat up on Liriano again. Obviously they are going to make the playoffs because if they play .500 ball from here on out they still have 101 wins. A sucky team with some luck cannot get 101 wins. They won't lose 120 games next season. Its called having the right manager with the right type of guys in the organization. No one expected them to do this well, but they are and it is going to stick for a few years. So you may as well accept it now.

A lot of the criticism I've heard about the Tigers is the same criticism I heard about the White Sox last year. They're getting lucky. They're winning an inordinate amount of close games. They're beating up on bad teams and losing to the other contenders. Etc., Etc., Etc.

All that stuff was true about the White Sox this same time last year, and you know what? We held a parade in Chicago last October. Everything worked out fine.

No, the Tigers don't suck. They have the best pitching in the league. They are leading the best division in baseball by 10 games. They have earned their place in the standings.

I'm not sure they've gotten lucky enough to be 40 games over at this point in the season.

Their pitching is the best in the majors by far, and what's not really getting noticed is that their BA is the 7th best in the majors, tied with the Spankmes, 1 point behind the Red Sux and only 4 behind Chicago and 7 behind Minnesota. When your ERA is a half-run to a run better than all of those teams, it's not surprising that they're as good as they are.

The problem here is is that they have not played well against the best teams in the AL. They seem to own the Twins, but have not played all that well vs. the other teams over .500:

New York 1-3 (at New York Aug 29-31)
Boston 1-2 (at Boston Aug 14-16)
Toronto 2-1 (vs. Toronto Sept 26-28)
Chicago 3-6 (at Chicago Aug 11-13, vs Chicago Aug 21-24, at Chicago Sept 18-20)
Minnesota 10-3 (vs Minnesota Aug 8-9, at Minnesota Sept 7-10)
Oakland 5-4 (finished)
Anaheim 2-3 (vs. Angels Sept 1-3)

That's 24-22 vs. the top teams, with nearly half of those wins vs. the Twins. Take them out of it and Detroit is 14-19 vs. the top teams in the AL. Against the rest of their schedule, they're 52-14.

It's difficult to call any team in professional sports lucky when they have the best record going into the final weeks of the season. They were outplayed by the Yankees, back in MAY....and it's now AUGUST. As anyone who has been around sports long enough would know...it's not how you're playing in the beginning that dictates how good the team is, it's at the end. They're currently winning 7 to 8 games out of every 10 they play, pretty consistent.

I do not think the Tigers are just getting "lucky" this year, they are just an increbible team that have one hell of a coach that is going to take them as far as he can.I think being a Barry Bonds fan is just retarded, I feel bad for you dude because thats who really sucks in baseball is that roid user.

its the pitching that is helping them when..... Detroit era 3.68 next team nym 4.03.... detroit has only allowed 944 hits the best in mlb 40 saves.... also best in mlb.......335 walk 10 in mlb and 1.26 whip best in mlb.. now will they do this good next year? most likley not but some of the pitchers can only get better... and detroit is almost ranked 6 in all of batting. they should always be this good in batting. they have a pretty good team...

You can't win this many games and be lucky. The Tigers may not be this good, but they are good.
