Baseball - June 2006

Everywhere I go, I hear someone talking about how slow and boring baseball is. They always hate on baseball, never soccer, never hockey, never bowling, three sports which lack the suspense and grace of baseball. These are on TV just as much these days, and yet nobody insults them. Baseball is always the worst sport in the world to people. Why is it baseball and not another sport. I personally don't like soccer and hockey because people make such a big deal out of something like stealing the ball where they probably won't score. But in baseball, when the guy gets to third, he's obviously close to scoring.

Is it the 26 World Series Championships? Or pure jealousy that NYC is so much better than Boston? I think both. I am proud to be a Yankee fan no matter what. Yeah so the Red Sox won 4 games in a row to get to the World Series? But look how long it took them to get there?

Lets assume I am throwing in a dome (no wind), and it is at Sea Level, Barometric Pressure is 760 and the humidity is 0%. A baseball is a sphere, 5 ounces, 9 inches in circumference (for calculating air resistance), and the ball has backspin on it upon release from my hand. Please don't say 428 feet either, that's not correct, although some others have said so (think they forgot to calculate air resistance). Good Luck. ( I REALLY WANT TO KNOW THIS, ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED, ESPECIALLY FROM MATH WIZZES!)
