Is it the 26 World Series Championships? Or pure jealousy that NYC is so much better than Boston? I think both. I am proud to be a Yankee fan no matter what. Yeah so the Red Sox won 4 games in a row to get to the World Series? But look how long it took them to get there?

I think that a better question would be "Why would anyone like the Yankees?"

They spend more money by far than anyone else in all of baseball so they can win every year and they haven't won in the last 5 years. On top of that, they act like they're supposed to win as if it's their God given right, and their fans act the same way. They criticize other organizations for not having as much money as they do. All of their superstars become losers when they get to New York (A-Rod, Giambi, Randy Johnson, Sheffield etc). Management won't let them be themselves with their hair etc. They have no personalities when they get to NY.

There's just nothing to like and so much to hate. That's why the Red Sox have a nation and why the Yankees will always be hated by people everywhere.

Let's take a look at your question piece by piece:

Why = because of

Red Sox = The Boston Red Sox are a Major League Baseball team located in Boston, Massachusetts in the United States. The team is in the Eastern Division of the American League. Their stadium, Fenway Park, was opened on April 20, 1912. THE RED SOX WON THE FIRST WORLD SERIES as the Boston Americans in 1903 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Fans = an enthusiastic supporter or devoted admirer of something, eg a pop group, a football team, a sport, etc.

Hate = to dislike intensely

Yankees = A person from New England or from any of the northern states of America.

Ok, so the way I see it is this way: The Boston Red Sox will always be the only team to have won the first world series EVER. That can't be undone, recreated, matched, rivaled, or somehow diminished.
THE BOSTON RED SOX *IS* BASEBALL.

Not only do Red Sox fans hate the Yankess, but every non Yankee fan seems to hate the Yanks. Its got nothing to do with New York. It has to do with success. Ever notice in the world series against the D-Backs and Marlins the majority of the sports fans were rooting for the underdog, everyone loves the underdog. Unfortunately the Red sox and most teams that have been matched up with the Yankess over the years have been underdogs. Human nature is to root for the team that doesn't stand a chance. Remember that guy in school growing up that got all the girls and never lost at anything? Although he was liked, he was probably more hated for the same reason. I am a huge Red Sox fan, and I love the rivalry between the two teams, I wouln't want it any other way, and unfortunately the Yankees have been the better team over the years. The tables seem to be turning though.........stay tuned.

I think it is because the Yankees have bullied the Redsox. If you look at who was always winning the division and looking at how many times the Yankees just shut the the door on the Sox in the series it is kind a hard to like the team that makes you look silly. And not just a while back the AL was superior to the NL so basically the AL Series was basically the World Series so the Red Sox feel that they have been closer than they seem to be. You also have to look at all of the big Red Sox moments. All of them except 1 major one (against the Mets) had been against the Yankees. And not just the on the field actions spice it up but its a whole big thing off the field, for baseball's sake there is even a Yankees hating brand and there are definetely several brands that sell shirts insluting the Red Sox. Finally the Red Sox are on the down-end of the biggest rivalary in all sports. When your rivals have won 24 more championships than you then you look pretty silly.

Simple answer, probaly too simple for you, and, probaly too frank for BoSox fans. For the record, I am not a fan of either team, but, I am a fan of the game. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, the dye was cast a long time ago. In places like Chicago, NY, and Boston, there is so much pride, such loyal fans, and, so much history. Consider the fact that the Yanks have all of the glory, all of the attention, all of the money, all of the honey, and, they own the Sox. Even when the Yanks aren't dominating the MLB, they are a still a big story, if not the biggest. The Yanks, by winning again and again and again, time after time, again, have totally reaped the royalties and the benefits of being the best. Jealously, and, envy may be too strong of words for some, but, it is what it is. When you couple that with "good"(serious) fans, who take a game too far, you get the Sox. There are real wars being fought everyday, somewhere, ya' know?

They have this great rivalry because of the Great Bambino. It has a lot to do with his trade to the Yanks from the Soxs and the Curse. Plus, we New Yorkers just HATE Boston right back. Its what we do.

P.S. Plus another thing to add is that the Yankees always come out on top, even if the Soxs have a great year. Near the end of almost every season, The Yanks have pulled ahead to be first into the ALCS.

Little history lesson for you, the Boston/New York rivalry started well before professional baseball, it started with boating. The reason baseball was put between the sox and yanks, was because there were two original models of baseball the Massachusetts game and the New York game. They fought over which game was better and that turned out to end up being MLB soon enough. Since then the rivalry between the sox and yankees have grown to what it is today. By the way... GO SOX!!!

It's not just Red Sox fans. Everyone hates the Yankees. There has never been a Broadway play called Damn Cardinals and their fans are as dedicated and as passionate as anyone's. It is the New York arrogance, the New York reputation for having the best team money can buy at $220 million. What's not to hate. You don't even have to leave the City. Stop by Shea during interleague play some time.

Same reason most people with their own major league baseball team hates the Yankees!! But now with the "eastern seaboard programming network" constantly shoving them down America's throat 24/7, that hate is rapidly growing. And it's also starting to spur on a newer hatred of the Mets & the Red Sox too. And in other sports too; the Knicks, the Jets, the Giants, & virtually any teams from the east in general, New York in particular!! E.S.P.N. really sucks!!!

I certainly don't believe they HATE the Yankees, but, maybe they aren't too happy with New York in general. That includes the attitudes of New Yorkers as well. And, of course, the New York fans have a reputation of being outright rude. And, presumptuous. They oft times appear to be arrogant and suffer denial. And, I am proud to be a Boston Red Sox fan. We have a lot of class and are decidedly more reserved than New Yorkers.I think that Boston took so long to "get there" because they know that you get sloppy when you are so used to winning easily and they can savor that one incredible world series win knowing they 'earned' it away from New York as well! As for New York being so much better than Boston, well, I think that's a matter of opinion. One person's maybe?
