Auto Racing - December 2007

I have to say, as a fan of McLaren since the times of Senna when I was very little... I am very dissapointed, especially because not only they lied but the practically blamed it all on Alonso and De la Rosa, what McLaren did this year was disgusting... what do u think?

As a kid my dad took me to dirt track races sometimes three times a weekend all around the western Pennsylvania area. I liked it, the roar of the engines and the beating and the banging. The usual fight in the pits after the main. But as I grew older I lost interest in it as other things were taking shape in my life. The Army, college, and a wife. Then in the early 80's I was watching a race on TV and they had a in car camera right over Cale Yarborough's right shoulder. You could see the gauges, part of the wheel, and the track in front of him. The mike picked up the engine and the whining of the gears. The commontators could talk to him under caution! I don't remember the exact year, but it was Datona and he won! That was great! and I've been hooked every since! I'm just wondering if any of you remember when you got the Nascar bug and what it was that triggered it?

a 4 banger race is a stock car that has 4 cylinders. My brother and my uncle race at a local track and the season hasn't started yet but i would love to race!!! Should I ask if i can or no because i am afraid of everything bu that and hockey?

Why don't they put a button on TV sets so that we can turn off the commentary part (Doherty, Wallace & Venturini) and be able to crank up the track noises of the cars and crowd. The neighbors know when its race day because the Bose are blaring throughout the 10 seconds when they shut their mouths with their asinine blabbering?

The FIA (in their almighty wisdom) are about to freeze all F1 engine development, with Max saying that F1 engines are full developed as they can run at 19,000 rpm and are very reliable.

But doesn't saying that they can't develop the engine any further stop them from improving on the clear disadvantages current engines have.

The amount of power (and therefore fuel) wasted on lifting valves, exhaust gasses, excess heat, excess noise and getting usable power from only 1/4 of the engine each stroke - this is where a LOT of fuel could be saved - not the small percentage that Kinetic Energy could give.

Limit the amount of fuel that a team can use, and have completely unrestrictive power plants. That would bring some major green developments in the automotive traction department.

it seems to me that the circumstances surrounding dale sr.'s death are a bit off, is it just me or what? i mean, the crash was something that most drivers would have walked away from,but dale didn't. and the safety equipment is checked regularly, as per nascar regs. so it all sounds pretty fishy to me, kind of like the magic bullet theory that killed kennedy. i don't know how old most of the people on here are, but i still remember when racing was dangerous and sex was safe, and now it's just the opposite. so what is your theory, thoughts, or just rants about it.

The 25 points would only be awarded if the poll winner earns the poll. if qualifing is rained out the points leader gets the poll but not the 25 bonus points because he did not earn the poll thru qualifing. I think this would keep the points closer and you would not have a run away leader like you have had in the past.
