Are you aware that a "red herring" is a fake, a ruse, a distraction meant to draw attention away from a real subject? With that said, your screen name means that you are trying to draw attention away from a real intellectual.
Oh, since you think that racing is a waste of fuel, and other resources, please do me one teeny, tiny favor?? Do not wear your seat belt (an invention concieved in racing), do not look in your rear-veiw mirrors (another invention thanks to racing), while you change lanes on the interstate, right into the path of a very large truck. You will be saving the world from a lot of non-essential greenhouse gasses.

I'm for the environment, but I believe you are over-emphasizing how much gas is really used.
According to NASCAR, about 6,000 U.S. gallons of fuel are consumed during a typical NEXTEL Cup weekend.[11] For the 2006 season, which includes 36 points races, the total for the season would be 216,000 U.S. gallons. One environmental critic recently estimated NASCAR's total fuel consumption across all series at two million U.S. gallons (7.57 million liters) of gas for one season;[12] however, the methodology used has been a point of dispute.
At race speeds, NEXTEL Cup cars get two to five miles per gallon.[12][13][11] Consumption under caution can be estimated at 14-18 mpg, based on comparable engines generally available to the public. Interestingly, the rate of fuel consumption tends to be the same regardless of the actual speeds of the cars, as teams change gear ratios for each race to ensure that the engine always operates in its optimum power band; however, the fuel mileage will vary for each race, depending on the maximum speeds attained.

Not as ridiculas as the amount of gasoline wasted by soccer moms driving in circles at mall trying to find the perfect parking spot, or the people that have there cars idling in drive-thrues to get there super-sized fries.
And it's it's only 43 cars not thousands

Do you know how many charities and organizations benefit from the sport of racing? Let's just look at Victory Junction Gang. It is a great organization created by the Petty's. They are race car drivers. Do you think if NASCAR wasn't around that this great organization would exist? You talk about gasoline being wasted but I always try to look at the positive. All professional sports waste money, but I look at what NASCAR gives back. You should take a look at the Victory Junction Gang website.

Yet another mindless question from someone who knows nothing about what they are asking.
You say wasted? It is being used for a purpose. How much energy is wasted when you post ridiculous questions about a subject for which you are clueless?
I would say though, a Nascar race with thousands of cars could be pretty interesting.
What is more ridiculous you commenting about how much gasoline is wasted, or you being so enraged about something you know nothing about.
You should change your name, you are about as intellectual as a butt pimple.
Am I clear enough?

Do you watch TV or movies? How much gas is wasted on all those cars driving around? Not to mention the catering, generator when shooting in secluded areas, which brings me to the electricity they waste. Less is used in a weekend of racing then any major movie shoot. And there are more movies made a year than there are races. So go bother Hollywood before you come here!!
It's all entertainment.

Does it even come close to how much is wasted by the thosands of Caddilac Escalades, H2's, and Lincoln Fornicators being driven as status symbols everyday? HMM don't think so. BTW where the f*ck do you get thousands from, it's 86 cars between the Sprint and Nationwide series, and 36 trucks. Give it a rest.

And, if you don't like it then don't ask a question in a racing blog. We are all race fans and arefully aware of how much gas is consumed in the fuel cells of the stock cars every weekend, and yes it is bad, but we know about it and we love the sport. Don't be so harsh.

Hey why are you blaming Nascar. They aren't the only ones who are wasting gas. The Nascar season has been over for 3 weeks now, and gas is still being wasted, and do you know who is wasting the gas every body is wasting gas, every single person who has a car and a liscense is wasting gas, every time you drive your wasting gas.
