hahahaha so you think that might give your boy Tony a chance to win one lol....you know i couldn't resist that one.....it would be a great idea.....add a road course and shift bristol to one of the chase races....then maybe i won't have to climb that big as*s hill to the track in the august heat as well....lol....but it would be a good idea that would shake up the standings a little i think....and might give someone a chance to wreck jackas*s and jerkoff....oh, sorry, jeffie and jimmie......

I would like to see it, but there is a mathematical problem with it. Although the roadraces play a big part in getting to the chase, they can't be factored into the chase, because, with two road races in the regular season, that is only .8% of all the races in the regular season. The number of races at the types of tracks in the Chase are based on the percentage of the races each type of track during the regular season. Thus 50% of the races during the regular season are on intermediate tracks, so there are five intermediate track races during the chase. Roughly 40% regular season races are run on tracks 1 mile or less, so there are four races during the Chase on the short tracks. A little over 10% regular season races are run on superspeedways, so there is the Chase race at Talladega. These are not close to being exact percentages, but it is NASCAR's logic, not mine, so the percentages are rounded to the nearest whole percentage point.
To move a road race to the Chase would leave the total percentage of road course races during the regular season at less than 1/2 of one percent, so, oxymoronically, there would still be no place in the Chase for a road course. This is the same reason Bruton Smith can't switch Loudon for Las Vegas in the Chase. However, it would be possible to switch Martinsville for Bristol, as they are both short tracks, but I doubt ISC would want to do that.
Added: The last ten races now are not the same as the last ten races in 2003. When the chase was set up, the last ten races were altered to meet the criteria stated above. I'm not saying that I agree with it, just that that's the way NASCAR does it.

The Chase definitely needs a road course. As much as it pains me to say it (I worked there 6 years), The Glen couldn't cut it. By the time the Chase starts, weather in the region is waaaaaaay too unpredictable. We've had frost in September up on the mountain.
I'm thinking drop the 2nd Fontana race (they don't sell out, so why bother?) and go to Laguna Seca.
Another option would be moving the Sonoma race to later in the schedule (putting it in the Chase) and use it's old date for a race at Mosport Park. This way you not only add a road course, but you now have a Cup date in Canada. Two birds, one stone.

Yes, there should be a road course race in the Chase. Road Racing is where real racing talent shows through. Being able to wheel a stock car around 7 or so different corners that are nothing alike, then trying to find the perfect spot to set up a pass on another car, it takes a lot. The drivers cannot mess up one corner or it will throw their rhythm off for the whole lap.

Besides that, there are so many tracks that are alike in the chase right now. You have Atlanta, Texas and Lowe's and to top it off they're all in a row on the schedule. I know from a drivers standpoint those tracks differ from one another as for driving lines, but to the eye they look almost the same. I would love to see one of them open a spot up to another road race.

If NASCAR is going to keep a road course on the race schedule, then I do believe that NASCAR should have a road course in the Chase to prove that the winner of the NASCAR Sprint Cup has the ability to perform on every type of track.

But, like I said, if NASCAR will keep it on the schedule, then go ahead and do so. But personally, I don't think that there should be any road courses on the schedule to begin with. This is a stock car series, not an open wheel series. Lets stay on the ovals and keep off the road courses.

absolutely, and they need to change the whole chase schedule to be honest. It WAS NOT SET UP TO REPRESENT ANYTHING, IT WAS JUST THE LAST TEN RACES ON THE SCHEDULE WHEN THEY STARTED THE CHASE. IF they are going to keep this bogus playoff system rather than a real points championship (and they certainly shouldn't by the way), then they need ALL the types of tracks represented, not 1/2 the Chase being 1 1/2 tracks. That's just lame.

Darlington, Richmond, Talledega, Dover, Bristol, Homestead, Pocono, California, Watkins Glen and Louden.

NASCAR desires to branch out across the worldwide, in my opinion, between the appropriate tactics they could do this is thru including some extra street courses, and the line direction races this 12 months have been fairly interesting to observe, so i don't see how yet another street direction, interior the chase or not, could be a nasty factor.

if the chase format was introduced to compete with the NFL for viewers in the fall why have a road race I am a diehard NASCAR fan but the only reason I watch the road races is becaues Tony Stewart usually owns the field during the race , The road races are all too often about sratagy and not about who has the best car It drives me insane when drivers pit on the third or fourth lap at Sonoma because they believe it gives them the best chance at being out in front late. Road Races SUCK

I think that is a needed addition to the chase. They could drop a Pocono or California race, move Homestead to THAT date and make either Atlanta or Texas the big finale. Put the new road course in the spot of whichever race you moved to the end of the season. That's what I'd do anyway.

Personally, I think there should be a road race in the chase. I like the idea of adding 2 more road races with one in the chase. I think then you would be able to have each of the types of tracks represented, a road course, superspeedway, short track, and the intermediates. Plus Dover, a superspeedway / short track / intermediate hybrid.

Matt Kenseth would be in trouble though. I have never seen such a talented driver struggle with anything like he struggles with the road courses.
