Geraldo Rivera speculated on Bill O'Reilly's news show that the deaths of Chris Benoit and Sherri Martell are possibly related. Rivera stated both Benoit & Martell died the same day, 6/15. Rivera also said Benoit & Martell had a proffesional relationship at one time in the wrestling industry. What are your opinions of Rivera's assumptions?

I'm going to the Twins-Yankees series over the 4th of July in New York. I am a big Twins fan (and from Minnesota) but I have heard from some people that wearing any Twins gear, like a hat or jersey, would be a mistake. Anyone have suggestions based on experience?

Chris Benoit achieved legendary status in the ring for his impeccable technical skills and attracted legions of devoted fans. However, his legacy will be forever marred because his violent and controlling nature, not roid rage, ultimately results is the brutal demise of himself and his family.

The preconceived notion that this tragedy is a result of roid rage is a theory with many flaws. This was clearly a pre-meditated act perpetrated by Chris Benoit.

The timeline of the events clearly supports this theory. Chris ties his wife’s ankles and wrists and then chockes her to death with an electrical cord on Friday. On Saturday, he then slaughters his son by applying a choke hold. There is a substantial time frame between the murders of both subjects. Roid rage is characterized by MD Gary Wadler as a “form of loss of impulse control”. Roid rage of a magnitude so immense that it would drive Chris to bury his wife “six feet under” is behavior that warrants the immediate murder of his son which is not the case.

In addition, Chris places bibles beside each of the murdered subjects which is definitely not an indication of roid rage. The placement of the bibles are an outward manifestation of his compassion for both subjects. It appears as if he is calling upon God to protect their souls and bring them to heaven. Another notable observation is that Chris does not place a bible beside himself when he commits suicide which implies that he believes his soul should be raped in the pits of hell for his actions. This clearly demonstrates how Chris is not blinded by roid rage because he is exhibiting behavior that is indicative of lingering guilt within his conscience.

Further concrete evidence to support this theory is that Chris text messages his co-workers with unorthodox messages with the intent of leading officials to the crime scene. He discloses his full address and information regarding the entry of his property. “The dogs are in the enclosed pool area. Garage side door is open,” wwe.com. In addition, he recites some bible phrases and discusses details regarding his will. This demonstrates how Chris is in a rational frame of mind and that the murders were undoubtedly pre-meditated.

Chris’ violent and controlling nature are the rudimentary cause of the demise of himself and his family.

One must note that Chris has a predisposition towards violence and a controlling nature. In divorce papers filed in 2003, Chris’ wife requests legal protection from him stating that Chris "lost his temper and threatened to strike the petitioner and cause extensive damage to the home and personal belongings of the parties, including furniture" tmz.com. In addition, his wife states that she was, "in reasonable fear for petitioner's own safety and that of the minor child" tmz.com.

Prior to the tragedy, Chris and his wife had many disputes regarding the rearing, schooling and care of their son Daniel. Daniel had fragile-x syndrome which is an inherited condition characterized by mental retardation and is the most prevalent cause of autism. His wife may have decided to take bold actions (specifics may be revealed in later reports) that Chris did not embrace. Given his predisposition towards violence and his controlling nature, it is plausible that the dominant stance taken by his wife regarding Daniel may have compelled him to eliminate his wife for fear of losing the power struggle. The time interval between the deaths of his wife and son indicate that there is an internal conflict within him as he contemplates whether or not Daniel would be able to rehabilitate from the emotional and mental scars that would be inflicted upon him from losing both parents as Chris knows he will most definitely be imprisoned for murdering his wife. He decides to place his son’s soul in the hands of God rather then permit his son to endure the hardships that surely await. Ultimately, he succumbs to immense guilt and hangs himself.

In conclusion, the violent and controlling nature of Chris Benoit ultimately results in his downfall. Roid rage is merely a veil utilized to conceal the inherent darkness of Chris Benoit’s character.
