It seems to me that this record was written in ancient times, by people who were associates of Jesus. Shouldn't this be included in the weight of historical evidence? How can one justify it NOT being included?

I'm not trying to pick a fight. I know they *recite* it, and sometimes read through the entire scripture during Ramadan. But the only authentic version is the original in Arabic, I was told (and I believe Arabic is a rich language that is hard to translate accurately).
Amongst Muslims who only read, say, English, or Farsi (not Arabic) what percentage of them actually know what the book says (beyond, say, a handful of passages)?
Even though Christians and Jews aren't reluctant to read translations of their scripture, many of them don't know their scripture very well. I'm curious if this tendency is also true in Islam.

Do you try and distance yourself from all the cruelty, intolerance, and violence that is in the OT? Truth though, even if it was before Christ, all that I just mentioned that was in the OT was God commanded...was it not His will, just because Jesus was not around then? Did God not command the barbaric actions of his followers?

Uh, the grave that is.

Exodus 22:18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

If you're going to run a campaign based upon being a fundamentalist bible-thumper, then let's not pretend that you're a reasonable man or that such questions are off limits. After all, it is Huckabee who pressed the issue.

Now from what I've heard I'll burn in Hell for all eternity if I don't believe in God. I've also heard that God loves me too. My mother would come and talk to me for a while, if it meant that it would spare me suffering. Yet God supposedly loves me much more than my mother does. Why doesn't he talk? I'm more than willing to listen. Sadly, when he doesn't, I'm forced to conclude he doesn't exist. If he does, he must not care very much.

Disclaimer: The Bible is an ancient book. There are lots of religious ancient books. It does not count as proof.

I understand dying for allah and the prophet and all of that. But can anyone tell me what justification these guys have in their mind when the walk into a crowd, sometimes in their own home town, and blow up themselves and others, often times women and small children. They must feel they are going to allah for this, but how do they figure that?

I just saw someone claim this and was wondering if this belief was widespread among atheists.

From what you know of Jesus of Nazareth, would you say He was unenlightened?

How many of you, religious and atheists, would like to jump to the other side of the wall for a little while and see things differently?

How many of you would have the courage to see through the other person's eyes?

How many of you would have the courage to get out of your own bubble and at least try to see beyound?

the angels cannot fall...
i think that claustrophobia is a normal state of mind..as long as we are told that we must fear God..so we fear hell..and the death..through death we coyuld go to hell..only those who don't believe that there is a punishment and a hell..are not claustrophobic at all..probably..

Church, bible study, awanas. I never really thought about how much of my childhood was spent with me being spoon fed religion. They seemed to know what the counter arguments were long before a mere child could even think to question the truth of their doctrine.

I remember that I was the kid who always got the most points for quoting verses.

But now, looking back, I wish I had been asking questions instead.

In 2001 the poverty rate for minors in the United States was the highest in the industrialized world, with 14.8% of all minors and 30% of African American minors living below the poverty threshold. Moreover, the standard of living for those in the bottom 10% was lower in the U.S. than in any other developed nation except the United Kingdom, which had the lowest standard of living for impoverished children.[Williams, Brian; Stacey C. Sawyer, Carl M. Wahlstrom (2005). Marriages, Families & Intimate Relationships. Boston, MA: Pearson. 0-205-36674-0.
] In 2006, poverty rate for minors in the United States was 21.9% - highest child poverty rate in the developed world.

And yet we are a "Christian" nation?
