Crude attack? Okay... it's not Leonardo, but...

Seriously, how is one truly meant to take those passages? I'm sure the writer doesn't believe in Christian dogma, but refusing to answer the questions suggests that you have no answer to them.

Uh.. not challenging God to prove anything here. Just challenging YOU. Unless you are God?

Do you see any similarities between the cartoon post and this story?

"Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"

Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'" "

Matthew 4:5-7

Well....For one thing I would tell Him, that he obviously Knows the text of the Bible but not the Context of the Bible.

as far as. in answering his question and responding to His Literal interpretation of that scripture I would tell him that Jesus gives them a promise of divine power and protection
This promise is to be understood in the context of the dangers inherent in the worldwide spread of the gospel, as Paul was bit by a snake and preserved on the island of Malta (Acts 28:1-6). Jesus never intended drinking poison or handling snakes to be a specific test or measure of faith.
As Far as speaking in tounges is concerned ?
new tongues, which they had never learned, or been acquainted with; and this was both a miracle (a miracle upon the mind), for the confirming of the truth of the gospel, and a means of spreading the gospel among those nations that had not heard it. It saved the preachers a vast labour in learning the languages; and, no doubt, they who by miracle were made masters of languages, were complete masters of them and of all their native elegancies, which were proper both to instruct and affect, which would very much recommend them and their preaching.

Now with that totally Blown away, so much for that

Yes i am a christian, but of what is see nowadays few are living who are true, struggle is not juz inside but also outside, i see killing, disturbance, politically in-correctness,immaturity in some actions and most of all its a battle of survival, i'm sorry to tell everybody that our christian life are dying,it is just a name,we have covered our views in the real image of christianity,if Jesus is here, perhaps we deserve a big spanking from him,but i know he will do such a thing,Because he is merciful and a good teacher, holy people who preach on the sacrament most are prying on the people pockets, i have seen it,i'm not making any distinctions, what i say are truth, it is advice to everyone to ponder their minds on the matter....Thanks and more power to the children hoping they can streghten and correct the matter. thank you, God bless all of you and a happy new year.

You know, this is the best response to Christian prosyletizing that I have ever seen... I'm going to start using this one whenever anyone decides to chastise me for not believing. The fact that they won't drink the poison is proof enough that they themselves don't believe as much as they like to say they do.

Edit: Lion of Judah, are you calling Jesus a liar? Are you saying that he said things out of his mouth that he did not actually mean, even when he WASN'T speaking in parables? Oh ye of little faith, he knows you not!

The Bible also says not to put God to a foolish test. He never commanded us to pick up snakes, just that if we do happen to get bitten we'd be protected, same for the poison.

Now, here is how you can REALLY tell if a person is a Christian:

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

I'm not a Christian. If I were, I might go find myself one of those snake-handlers from the south.

Or I'd give the response about how Jesus claimed that you're not supposed to test God by making him protect you from things that you can protect yourself from (like jumping off a cliff when the Devil tells you to).

The cartoon strip was a hoot. Unfortunately, most people who profess to be christians don't understand what they believe or why they believe it. Its a common malady.

I have heard it asked, "IF you were arrested for being a christian would there be enough evidence to convict you?" Sad to say, most would fail the test. We talk a good talk, but most who profess are not "possessors" of that which makes us christians.

God has not told us to take 'acting lessons' and learn how to "look like a christian", but to "reckon ourselves DEAD unto sin, but alive unto God." We are to BELIEVE that God has indeed given us a brand NEW identity IN Christ. When we KNOW who we ARE "IN HIM" thru studying the scriptures that tell us precisely what He accomplished on Calvary, THEN watch out. The changes in a man will be obvious to all.

It is not up to us to prove it...but up to HIM as He lives HIS life in and thru us. Galatians 2:20 says it all:

"I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives IN ME; the life I now live , I live by the faith of the Son of God , who loved me and gave Himself for me."

Eggo,
Actions speak louder than words! If a person who knows me does not know that I am a Christian by my actions then he/she certainly does not know me at all. I do not go out of my way to "Prove that I am a Christian" but I do not hide it either. Those who are around me know that I am not a worldly person and that I believe in GOD. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks,
Eds

Did Jesus or his Apostles follow a religion called Christianity? Who were the first 'Christians' ? Who founded Christianity and do the teachings of Christianity conform to the teachings of Jesus?

The teachings of Paul, the true founder of Christianity, cannot be found anywhere in the teachings of Jesus or in those of prophets before him.

The following are some of the innovations that Paul introduced into "his" religion of Christianity.

1. The divinity of Jesus
2. The trinity
3. Atonement
4. Salvation by faith

Using these doctrines Paul achieved phenomenal success in his ministry. The Jews may have brushed Jesus aside, but the Gentiles flocked to Paul's side, as he gave them just what they wanted in their new religion. The term for the earlier followers of Jesus –Nazarenes was dropped in favor of a new, more 'appropriate' name: Christians, or followers of Jesus Christ.

This new religion of Christianity "...was abundantly interwoven with mythological content drawn heavily from pagan sources..." along with having a theology "...which was produced as the need arose to suit the mentality of the times..."

Later Church leaders thought to neatly end the confusion by saying that Jesus was God-incarnate--an eternal being who "chose" to become a man in the womb of Mary. Jesus had, in other words, two natures--divine and human-- which were united in one single person. While they probably meant well, making a statement such as this only led to more confusion.

The Jews did brush Jesus aside; in a way, however, the religion of Christianity as conceived by Paul has also brushed Jesus aside. Despite what a Christian might say, one will find no evidence wherein Jesus himself puts forth any of the afore--mentioned doctrines within the Gospels. Since Jesus had no plans to start a new religion, it goes without saying that he also did not formulate any doctrines for such.

All Christian doctrines are the work of Paul, based on his desire to gain favor--and new converts--among the non Jews of his time. By incorporating pagan beliefs into the teachings of Jesus, Paul achieved phenomenal success in his ministry, but at the price of tearing down everything that true monotheism stands for. In so doing, Paul abrogated all teachings of Jesus and gave mankind a set of beliefs that have plagued his sense of reason ever since. It is here --the true nature and role of Jesus, as opposed to the Christian view of such -- where we find the fundamental difference between Islam and Christianity.

There are FAQs by children. The depth of the answer depends on the age of the child. Parents should be prepared to answer these questions.
