What is a soul? Is it not just the "spark" of life? Or is there more to it? I don't want just religious answers. I am interested in the secular view point as well.

The question a lot of people have during their childhood (unless they were just bought up being told that Jesus is real) is if there is a God, if Jesus existed and what happens when we die? Truth is nobody knows what really happens when you die and nobody really knows if there is an almighty God (Which I doubt). But one thing I know is that logic and historical facts point out that Jesus was in fact not real and was taken from stories and myths of other people from other cultures and turned into a mythical savior for the Christians. Take the Egyptian God Horus and his father Osiris which dated back 2500 years before Jesus yet they share very close similarities in story. Then there is the Persian God Mithra who shares almost the same exact story as Jesus, only thing is they all date back before any mention of a man named Jesus. Other Gods who have similar stories and date back before Jesus are Hercules, Hermes, Prometheus, Perseus, Krishna & Buddha (Siddhartha Gautama).

For instance:

Genesis 3:19 - "In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; you are dust, and to DUST YOU SHALL RETURN."

Ecclesiastes 9:5,6,10 - "5 For the living know that they will die, but THE DEAD KNOW NOTHING, and they have no more reward; but the memory of them is lost.
6 Their love and their HATE and their ENVY have ALREADY PERISHED, and they have no more for ever any share in all that is done under the sun
10 Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there IS NO work or THOUGHT or KNOWLEDGE or wisdom in Sheol, to which you are going."

Psalms 146:3,4 - "3 Put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help 4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; IN THAT VERY DAY HIS THOUGHTS PERISH."

Any uhm. . . .explanation for the belief in heaven/hell?

If this God's chosen one person gets off on all the attention that everyone gives him? There are several regular posters who are desperate for attention (negative and positive). Is it a spiritual practice to constantly keep giving to them? Are we really doing them a disservice by constantly playing their game?

(My other question was deleted by an angry rat.)

You say Adam can't be saved simply because of this verse:
Hebrews 10:26
"If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left..."

First of all, it says "after we have received the knowledge of the truth". Question: What is "the knowledge of the truth"? Is this something Adam could've grasped at that time?

Second of all, Adam didn't "deliberately keep on sinning after he had received the knowledge of the truth" because he didn't have the "Knowledge of Good and Evil" yet since he just took a bite from the fruit. He didn't have the Knowledge of Good and Evil.

Third of all, the verse says "if we DELIBERATELY KEEP ON SINNING...". Does this sound like the only sin it shows us Adam of committing? Does this story of sin say he deliberately kept on sinning, or did he just sin?

(to be continued in additional details)

if He really loved you, would he have so many flaming hoops to jump through to be "saved" - would he let a "Heathen Savage" with no knowledge of the bible into heaven? or is he really that lovingly exclusionary?

I think some of us start out fearing God because that is what we are taught, however, I think that as people mature and grow in a relationship with God we find our motivation as love for Him and appreciation for what He has done for us.
Coming from a Baptist background I knew a lot more about fearing God than seeing Him as my Redeemer, as One who has loved me and will love me eternally.
If fear has been your motivation, how can you trust Someone you're afraid of?
When we're told to "fear" God in the Bible, does it really mean to stand in awe of Who He is? To realize why we need Him?
It seems to me that we can't truly love God if we're really motivated by the desire to avoid punishment.
What do you think? And, please, if this question doesn't interest you just pass it by, there is no need for disrespect. Thank you.

Facts, not prejudice: How likely is it that a practicing priest in 2007 would sexually abuse a minor? How does this risk compare with ministers, rabbis, and teachers?

A study by the Catholic League found:
Over the last four decades, less than 1.5 percent of the estimated 60,000 or more men who have served in the Catholic clergy have been accused of child sexual abuse. . . . Of contemporary priests, the Associated Press found that approximately two-thirds of 1 percent of priests have charges pending against them.

Almost all the priests who abuse children are homosexuals. Dr. Thomas Plante, a psychologist at Santa Clara University, found that “80 to 90% of all priests who in fact abuse minors have sexually engaged with adolescent boys, not prepubescent children. Thus, the teenager is more at risk than the young altar boy or girls of any age.

why did god not create humans whith the capability of photosynthesis? We could just sit in the garden, enjoy the sun and not worry where the next meal is coming from. Wouldn't that have eliminated many wars in our history? Wouldn't green humans have been a more intelligent design than the present version?
