I used to visit a revival church where many people 'spoke' in tongues and also 'danced under the Spirit'. After a while I realized everybody was repeating the same sounds over and over again. My personal impression was that this phenomenon is 'mass hysteria' (a condition in which identical physical and emotional symptoms develop among a group of individuals under extreme anxiety or excitement). There are far more valuable gifts of the Spirit to help you become a better Christian, like the gift of Love and the gift of Service to others, and the gift of Wisdom. As far as I know Jesus never spoke in tongues. This is my opinion based on my personal experience and observations and it is not my intention to offend anybody.

tongues is a very rare gift. not everyone can speak actual tongues. Acts tells you that tongues also is not babble, it's an actual language someone else could understand. Paul also warned that one should not speak tongues unless someone present could interpret. tongues are for edification of many, not one person. there are false tongues, and some tongues that have been translated the people were cursing God. you have to be very careful with tongues. a few saints in the Church have spoken real tongues, meaning there was an interpreter present. St Katherine of Sienna would speak in tongues while experincing the communion of saints. Tongues translated from St Padre Pio prophesied John Paul II as Pope. tongues from John Huss who Rome burned at the stake prophesied of Martin Luther coming to start the Protestant Reformation. the interpretation was: "in 100 yrs God will raise up a man Rome will not be able to stop." 100 yrs later Luther came along.

That started when the babylonians, again, the babylonians, the worst place, anyway they were trying to build a tower to reach heaven to get closer to God, they were all gathering around and communicating with each other and would not give up on this silly notion, God wants us to know the real way to get to the Kingdom, so this had to be stopped, so God had them speak in all different languages, can you imagine the look on all thier faces, when different languages came out, that must of freeked them out, God works in miraculous ways, and we had best follow His Will.

no one should talk in a language no one can understand besides yourself. that is a truth look it up I will say this. during Pentecost the people were all talking in there own language like Greek or Spanish. and all were understood not in jibber jabber . you should have at least one person to interpret what you are saying so it must be a language more than just you understand. so do not be fooled. the truth is an offense but not a sin.

I speak in tongues other than my native language
I speak French, German, Greek, Latin and a touch of Gaelic. All of these are tongues. How do you distinguish?
Btw, it took 3 years to learn each of them (with the exception of french, I picked that up really quickly)

One does not learn to speak in tongues.....
It is a baptism in the HOLY GHOST.........and it is From God above...and when God comes and takes abode in your life....inside..it comes from His spirit on the inside..not you....
John 7:38-39 " He that believeth on me,as the scripture hath said , out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water( the Word)
(But this spake He of the Spirit which they that believe on him should recieve: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified )
And speaking in tongues is just not something you do....for it says...One speaks in tongues as the Spirit of God gives the utterence............
And if your sincere and living Holy....then ask of Him who will give liberally to those who ask !!!

this is how it works
1. go to a church where they speak tongues
2. watch and learn, still hoping you'll receive the gift
3. be embarrassed that god has not granted your wish
4. pretend to do it like everyone else.
