I am curious if the Christians hang up on them or listen politely.

What did you do the last time a solicitor called you?

I don't know why I'm answering this, because I really don't like you, but I'll share this for the general public.

I get a lot of phone calls conducting surveys while I am at work. All of it is industry-related, but much of it I don't have time for or care about. One day, I was bored, and typed up a survey of my own to counter these people with. When they called, I would say, "For every question you ask me, I get to ask one of you in return. OK?" My questions were all ridiculous, such as, "Favorite flavor of Snapple", "Sammy Hagar or David Lee Roth", etc.

Once, prior to a business trip to San Diego, I got such a survey phone call. She not only played along with me, but I got a dinner date out of the deal, as she just so happened to be calling from San Diego.

I cut them off mid sentence and immediately ask:

is this a sales call (they are legally obligated to tell you)

if yes

I say "may I speak with your manager?"

then (after waiting a while)
"please remove this number from your calling list and all other calling lists you may have or recieve in the future".

The ENTIRE TIME I don't let them get a word in until I'm done talking. Keep an authoritative tone- not necessarily rude, but let them know I mean business.

When they agree, I thank them and hang up.

Have you had your break today?

I got tired of them long time ago and I put my number on the "do not call list". They still were calling for a few months after that, but then it stopped. Now every once in a while someone will call and I just tell them, that I am on the "do not call list" and they apologize and hang up, because they know if I would report them it will cost their company alot of money.

I try to be polite, I honestly do. I let them finish their sentence and then tell them I am not interested. Only if they won't accept that or if they get impolite do I hang up on them. Even after I say I'm not interested, I listen while they recite the 800 number I should call if I change my mind. They're all human, and they're just doing their job. So, I try to be polite unless I have a reason not to.

A local finance company somehow got my phone number and offered the refinance my house. Both times they called I was polite. After they called the second time, I got even. I put their business phone number in several local car sales paper, the ones where you can post for free. 2005 Chevy pick up, must sell $4,000. I called them back 1 week later, to ask about the pick up. The frustrated receptionist said their phone lines have been jammed for a week. Revenge is sweet.

I am a Christian and was a telemarketer so I know how it feels to be hung up on and try to never do that unless the person is rude. I usually don't answer the phone unless it is a number I recognize which saves me from having to deal with the call at all. If I do talk to them I politely tell them I am not interested and most of them do not continue to push.

I used to be one, so I try to be tolerant.... I'm on the do not call national list so they don't call anymore, but when they did - I would listen for a moment and as soon as there was a break I would explain that I used to be in there shoes so I know how hard their job is, but that right now was a really bad time - then I'd ask them for a 1 sec overview of what they were calling in reference to and then tell them that I wasn't interested and wish them luck.

Been a while but I tend to hang up on them. For a while I tried to be polite. Tell the person that I was not interested in hearing about whatever they were selling. And tried to politely get off the phone. It did not work. They would not listen to me and kept trying to go on and do their little talk. Since polite didn't work I just hang up now.

I was a telemarketer for a while, because I needed a job, this was along time ago, but we have to have patience, they are are sisters and brothers and trying to make a living, they probably most likely have a family to support, we should be kind and tell them we are not interested if we are not, or tell them the truth, kind, its not like the same one is gonna call back and harass you on the phone every fifteen seconds, Jesus wants us to have a heart filled with kindness.

I tell them that I do not do business with anyone who solicits over the telephone and then politely hang up. If I am getting bunch of calls, I will also tell them to remove me from their call-list.
