What is the purpose/meaning of life if you are atheist? How do you not get depressed and wish to die? Don't you wonder how and why the earth came to be?

According to wikipedia, Jehovah's Witnesses believe, and I agree, "The soul is the person itself, not an immortal immaterial entity that dwells inside the body." On the other hand, I have heard that Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus' body was not raised from the dead, but taken by God; instead, his soul was raised. How is this view of the soul reconciled with this belief about the resurrection?

How is the ancient view of resurrection reconciled with this belief, also? N.T. Wright provides excellent insights into resurrection in The Resurrection of the Son of God, examines pagan, Jewish, and Christians sources and concludes "[W]hen early Christians said 'resurrection' they meant it in the sense it bore in both paganism (which denied it) and in Judaism (an influential part of which affirmed it). ... It meant bodily resurrection; and that is what the early Christians affirmed" (Wright 209-210). Why would the New Testament authors use resurrection language for an abandoned body?

I have never understood where anybody can see free will in what God does. He gives you a choice, either obey me or go to hell. 2 choices, thats not free will, that is controlling. so where do you get that he gives us free will?

According to all of those christianity gurus, people can do whatever they want, then ask for forgiveness, be forgiven, then go to heaven. That sounds silly to me. If God is who everyone says he is, then there should be no exception or forgiving when it comes to religion. If you are going to be religious, then you need to follow it by the book.

This means that as soon as you sin, you are damned from that religion, never to return again. Thats how it should be. And of course people make mistakes, but if religion is so exact and great, then mistakes should not be allowed.

What I am getting at is that christianity should have no leeway when it comes to it's network marketing of a system. Either be religious and follow the silly book, or get the hell out of here. That would make so much more sense for a ridiculous belief system that has so much influence over our society.

Do we see this matter that we need to abide in the Lord so that He can have a way to abide in us.. that apart from Him we can do nothing? What does this mean to you as a believer in these two aspects.

1 How you spend your day abiding and staying with the Lord.
2 How you relate to and view other branches in the Vine

Any verses to support and strenghten your sharing is warmly welcome :)

In Christ

I've been dealing with alot of depression mainly because of my past from being raped, my father tried to kill me twice and etc. I am christian and with my religion they say take everything up with God. Thats great and everything but sometimes its good to talk it out to someone who can give you good help and advice, i'm afraid my church family will find out if i start going and I will be asked to sit down from my church duties (thats what they do when you dont follow the rules of the church).

First off, please only anwser if you do not oppose other religions, i am open to all religious view anwsers however if you simply oppose christian views then please do not anwser.

The main question is am I sinning

I used to have a big porno problem, i go over that and became a christian, then I started having wet dreams and waking up stuck to my bed.

Now I know it may be my fault for ever being involved with those thoughts, but I cant help wondering, I know as a christian its wrong to ejaculate outside of a woman, but as a human I know I had no real control over it. It was a dream, what was I supposed to do?

So the question is, am I sinning.

Also, please state your religion, just to make it more simple for me

It sounds a bit naive to trust what the Bible says about the existence of Heaven and I'm sure that many Christians agree with me.

I was raised a Christian from about 5-6 years of age. I atteneded church and practiced the faith for years. But with the preregrinations of the so called "Christian Right" in the USA in the last few decades I have come to disbelieve all promises of that faith. I am still happy and do not plan to take up a life of so called "sin." The way of life taught by Christ is still good to me but I can not any longer beleive his promises. Can I still be friends with those who still believe?.

Ismael's Mother was an Egyptian I was told or read, so the Egyptians are not nesasarilly the desendants of Ismael.
What great nation? Does this nation have borders or had borders or are they a group of people? Are they his desendants by ideology , religion, choice, or by blood line?
Prove your point by using the Bible if you can.

Evolutionists are so quick to defend their theory as "science" and not a religion or belief. So why are there so many evolution questions in the religion section? Why not post them all in the science section? Just curious. :)
