I was raised a Christian from about 5-6 years of age. I atteneded church and practiced the faith for years. But with the preregrinations of the so called "Christian Right" in the USA in the last few decades I have come to disbelieve all promises of that faith. I am still happy and do not plan to take up a life of so called "sin." The way of life taught by Christ is still good to me but I can not any longer beleive his promises. Can I still be friends with those who still believe?.

You can be friends with whom ever you please, as long as they will have you.

That's a lot of questions all at once!!!, so I'll have to answer quickly. 1. It's obvious God exists through his creation and he has been faithful and answered many prayers. 2. God is real and alive and shows up sometimes! 3. Nobody is a real Christian unless they choose to be. True Christians are those who decide themselves and it is not forced like the Muslim religion, and Hinduism and false religions. 4. People will ignore God and die in their sins and go to hell if they don't have some crisis that makes them decide to trust in the Lord. That is why he allows a crisis---they never deserved anything else and they would end up in hell for all eternity unless they turned to the Lord. 5. People have to go through "hell" on earth sometimes or they will never listen and learn. It's like a parent giving a child a bad spanking for disobeying on an important issue for the 4th time. 6. We are supposed to thank God all the time but only the ones who love him with all their hearts will thank him when things go wrong. 7. If you need to see God to believe you don't love him and you don't want to obey because you have to have some faith and believe him without seeing all the proof first. He will show you many things after you accept him. 8. If you want to ask God for a sign you should repent first and just ask him to be your Savior and Lord, and if you do that you will get a sure sign. 9. Please, do not give up on God. He does love you so much!!! He has a reason, a special plan for creating everyone, each person. You are important to him! 10. The true God is a God of love, not destruction. The Muslims don't know the true God. They have been deceived by the devil. 11. There is a true way to know which is right, by repenting and asking Jesus to show you and be your savior. He knows every need you have and what kind of pressures are on you. He shows up stronger for those with greater needs when the time is right. He has not forgotten you. Trust in Him!!!

Sadly it sounds as if you were never saved in the first place. The devil believes in Jesus but that doesn't have anything with being saved and born again. The only way to Heaven is to accept Jesus Christ into your heart, pray for forgiveness of your sins, and to confess Jesus as Lord and Savior. I f you've never did that before, than you were never a true child of God. The Bible speaks about how in the end times things will be chaotic on this earth with weather, governments, families against each other and so on. So you can't base your beliefs of Christ on the way people or the way government acts, its based on a personal relationship with Christ that matters. I pray that you will pray about your decision that you have made because it is the single most important decision you will ever make in your whole life. It will determine where you will spend eternity. Praying for you.

You need to seek another Christian life. Might I suggest Orthodoxy. There is a surge in converts to the Orthodox church e.g. Greek Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, etc. Find one, visit, listen. Many are using more and more English in services so you don't have to learn a foreign language just to worship. The younger priests are just amazing how they can so easily blend a 2,000 year way of belief into modern life. Do some reading here on the computer.......go to the Greek Orthodox web site........you may find comfort.

No, you are not lost but you are at a crossroads and need some careful counsel. We can so easily slip into sin without realizing it, it is best not to try to swim in life's sea without a life guard.

What does the behaviour of a group of humans have to do with Christ's promises? Of course people screw up and make mistakes and often mispresent or poorly represent Christ, they're human. But He himself is unchanging and reliable. His promises are real even if his followers, like all people, can sometimes act like idiots. The way of life taught by Christ is empty without Christ. Talk about it with Him. Remember the guy who came to him in the Bible and asked him to help his unbelief, and Jesus did! Jesus promises us eternal salvation, not earthly political solutions. Keep the big picture in mind and remember that Jesus loves you enough to die for you.

Of course! I agree with you. I stopped going to church for the same reason. Yet I have three extremely faithful God-lover friends. Hmm... instead of tree-huggers, would I call them God-Lovers, or God-Huggers? lol But of course! They do not mind and often we'll just pass around a few sentences about God and not really care who believes in what. It's more important that you do what you are most comfortable with. I, for one, do not like being persuaded into a religion or style that I do not prefer or like. Take a stand, keep your opinion, and get many different friends. Who knows? Maybe you'll actually like one point of view better, or lead someone towards your way! Good luck! ;)

Naw......welcome to reality tho :)

1. Many more individuals are born than can possibly survive, thus there is competition for limited resources

2. Within this vast number there is variation, and because of this variation some of these individuals will have an advantage--however slight--over others

3. The ones who have the advantages are more competitive and thus they are more likely to obtain the limited resources

4. The ones who are succeeding in securing the limited resources are more likely to reproduce and thus pass onto their offspring the more competitive traits

Darwin

BTW.....why does anyone pray?? Doesnt God already know everything and doesnt he control everything??

Does the person who prays the most get the most?? Is it a contest with God?? Does he keep score??

It occurs to me that praying is very selfish b/c God already knows it all and controls it all, so it makes no sense to me....unless of course God is just pure fiction....mmmmmm....

Good for you. Another person with common sense and rational thinking. I don't believe and many of my friends believe. What the heck difference does it make? My friends and I don't choose our friendships based upon each others religious beliefs. Just be a good and descent person and treat others the way you would like to be treated. You'll be fine.

i dont see why not, but i also dont understand why you would allow a modern day political movement to be the end all deal breaker between you and a 2000 year old faith. maybe their version of christianity is not consistant with the true faith, and thats really whats turning you away?

Sounds like you had more faith in the religion then you did in God. Read his word for yourself and remember just because we are Christians doesn't mean that our life is going to be easy breezy.

Welcome to the wonderful world of reality!

Whether you friends who still believe will remain your friends is almost impossible to answer as each person is different. Certainly you'll find ou who are your real friends and who are the bigots soon enough. The real friends will stick with you, the bigots will dump you like a red hot coal.
