does it scare you that some people are so focused on what happens after death that they neglect the life that they have been given?
i don't mean to point any fingers at christianity, but it is the other belief system that i'm most familiar with. i know there are probably those among my fellow pagans that are too focused on it as well.
it seems like saying things like "this isn't my home," "this life doesn't matter, eternity does," "everything will be made whole after death," "this is just a learning experience," etc, is a cop out. it is an excuse to not do anything to make things better. it sometimes seems like people are lusting after death...
you are entitled to your firm beliefs, but no one has any actual proof about what happens after death. so do you think that it has become too easy to squander the life we have been given by focusing on what comes after and forgetting that what we do here does matter?

Was it a physical experience or a more mental experience. Or do you just believe in what you have been taught. and what made you realize that god is not a myth.

We all know that God's favorite football team is probably the Saints (the whole name and all, although I secretly think He's a big fan of Manning and the Colts), but more importantly...is He a Bud light fan, or Miller light?

I am asking this because in answering another question a couple of people said they attend nondenominational churches.

I am going to a nondenominational church tomorrow. This church is not in the town where I live; I am going with somebody who is very shy, but looking for a church home.

Everything on their website seems reasonable enough to me, but I’m not entirely sure what to expect.

Could you tell me about your nondenominational church?

Are they usually similar to other protestant services?

Would i get sent to hell? even though i had good intentions of seeking the truth? thankyou

If there is a power greater than man, it could exist in any form from totally mindless energy to all powerful superbeing. To pick a point on the spectrum to make it a persona, we'll give it 1billion to 1 odds against. Given individual existance ranging from viruses to humans, we'll give it another billion to 1 against it being even remotely like humans would imagine. Even if it has the thoughts, emotions and so on, we'll have to give it another billion to 1 against it caring a bit about one species on this insignificant little dustball planet. To have the characteristics of any deity used in any religion, there goes another billion to one on the spectrum. To be specifically a particular deity, that a present religion follows, completely off the scale. To be the particular deity that your religion follows? hmmmmmm
Why am I suppose to believe this religion stuff again?

Yesterday an R & S regular who I believe is an atheist asked for everyone of every belief to “keep my sister in your thoughts, spells, and prayers” as she is suffering with cancer. The best answer went to a Wiccan. I was emotionally touched and truly impressed with the outpouring of love from the theists, and only theists responded to this question. I felt a sense of shame for not answering this question because I usually try to answer this person’s questions as I find them interesting. I felt like I had nothing to offer. This would have been a bad time to spew my anti religion stance in my often sarcastic manner and I don’t believe this is an appropriate time to say anything negative. I consider myself an atheist and consider Pascal’s Wager to be highly irrational, however, I was wondering how this might be applied to prayer. Continued:

Particularly for people who didn't believe in God before, and know do, but also for people who have always believed--what sustains that belief?

This sounds very Christocentric, but it goes for any religion.

I am searching.

How come Jews will go to hell I mean the Trinity says Jesus is God and the Jews worships God, I am confused our teacher says that the RCC does not care what religion you convert to since we all only have one God

what I meant to say is if the Muslim's God and The Jews God are the Same as the Christians God so how come the Jews and Muslims will go to hell by not accepting Jesus Christ which is the same God as the Muslim's and jews because of the trinity

Its kinda a long story to tell but i'll try to make it as short as possible. Ok so I got interested in auras, and I can see them. And by getting interested in auras which are closly connected to the New Age, demons would come into my room when I was trying to sleep and terrorize me. I didn't know why they were bothering me, until today my best friend taylor (who can also see auras) that her mom researched aura's and found out that it was basically satanic. I have had demons in my room since the begining of january 07. And its horrible to sense their presense and be so frightend that you can't get to sleep. But I blessed my room and they went away for awhile. But then sometimes came back. But I repented and I really am sorry for getting into this new age stuff, but I know that satin is not going to give up without a fight. And knowing this its going to be hard to go to bed tonight. Even though they haven't been in my room for a while.....But I know that they'll come again.

This story about the so called "Hobbits" and several like it that have appeared over the last few months suggest to me that the Theory of Evolution is a theory that is constantly changing and growing as new data is discovered and integrated.

This doesn't seem like a dogma or religion to me - it sounds like good, solid science. What do you think?

I'm in my 30s & I recently went back to school. I'm only one of two black girls in the huge class. There's a girl in my class who is really rude. I asked her (in a very polite manner) if she could lower her voice b/c I was having a hard time focusing on my work. For the rest of the class, she kept making racist innuendos. The clever (and evil) thing about an innuendo is that it's not strong enough for you to prove that it's directed at you or that's it's rooted in hate. I can't get it off of my mind. I can't believe that someone will stoop that low. When someone can't make a comment about your character, they just make a nasty comment about your race. She has started to kindof bully me. She has said or done something rude to me almost everyday. The funny thing is that we are adults and we have a bully in class. The other adults say nothing or flock to her when she starts this, I think out of fear or just b/c they enjoy trouble. How do I handle her and the anger?

I used to see hope in intelligence but not anymore.
I also used to look for it in the human heart but it's hard to find there also.

Where else can hope possibly hide?

I do feel sorry for the Iraqi who have to believe in Hallah and the people in isolated jungles in Africa and the Amazon who haven't heard of Jesus love. Sucks they have to go to hell for eternity. Oh well. There's a big chance that I would be born into a place that didn't worship the right god and I would have to go to hell, I'm lucky Jesus made me Americain.

A while back, I answered this "question"

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AvbizLAI_8JY7DYLWlmTsQvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071006171037AATtfBa

I informed the user I was reporting them, and why. Soon afterwards, I was given a VIOLATION NOTICE and penalized 12 points with the following explaination:

"Deleted Answer: Not a question. Reported. No spam please! When in doubt, please refer to our Community Guidelines. http://answers.yahoo.com/info/community_guidelines.php"

Their question, and 2 others just like it from the same user remain on Y!Answers, even though they are clear violations.

Have the rules changed? Does this mean it's appropriate to spam up the forum with fake questions for the sake of evangelism?

Is this user:
http://answers.yahoo.com/my/profile;_ylt=AkBwqQDRL.tFt.7nVhlMaPfty6IX;_ylv=3?show=JlfzA3rVaa
abusing the forum, or is it just my imagination?

Hopefully your answers will send a clear message to the wonderful unbiased "abuse" team.

Thanks!
