"Treat others as you would have them treat you."

This rule has been stated by many cultures and in many religions, but stated in different ways. The meaning, however, remains the same.

I actually have a pretty extensive list, but I would like to hear some from the members. I would enjoy finding new ways that this rule was said.

Do you know any? I would also appreciate a source to be listed.

Both sides of my family are what they call devote Catholics. I am now Pagan. Wait hold your fire before condeming me. They ALL tried to BULLY me and Blackmail me into staying with the Cathlolic religion, even though I didn't pratice it except at their warped funerals. Do you feel that bullying someone and blackmailing someone is the way to get them to follow Christianity or Catholism and if you do why?

My aunt and uncle complained and whined about having to come back from their vacation to attend my father's funeral. This same uncle and aunt would NOT give my cousin permission to marry the man she loved until he converted to Catholism, which he did. Also my aunt was siting behind me at my dad's funeral cheerily chatting away about how much fun she had on the partical vacation. I suppose that is a Christian way to act as well. So now defend their behavior and crucify me.

if the pope ordered a crusade against another religion would you obey?

Would you kill in the name of your god if it was religiously justified, if it was your duty as a catholic?

It has been done in the past and justified before.

or would you disobey the pope and his commands?

(if your a member of another religion I'd still like to know your views if something similar was stated by your leaders)

Please don't be shy about answering, I'd love to hear everyones genuine belief on this

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.

I'm especially curious about the religious stance on it, seeing as how most religions claim that morals and ethics originate with them.

If the whole idea was to create and be with sinless beings, why would he give the opportunity to Adam & Eve to be tempted. They had absolutely no knowledge of sin, temptation, deceit, pain, etc. They were basically newborns -- just as adults. Fresh from the ground.

The typical Christian response is: Well God wanted to give man the choice to choose to follow Him or Satan and like any good parent -- let them feel the consequences of disobedience.

FINE, but that doesn't justify giving them a fair chance to make a fully educated decision (as we do now) nor does it make sense for people that are now 0.0000[insert many zeros here]000001 percent related to them to be paying for Adam & Eve's sin infintely worse than their initial banishment.

I'll leave it at that for now.

Have fun!

Proverbs 22:16 Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.

I think that many missed this verse. Look at how many "Christians" conduct their businesses and business practices.
