I communicate via text messages on my phone with a friend in Texas who is undergoing dialysis treatments. I am trying to be emotionally supportive.
I understand what it does, that it cleans the blood of urine, etc. because the kidneys aren't working.

How will my friend feel when she is done with dialysis. Is it painful and tireing?

Because I'm just an online friend 1000 miles away all I can do is type the letters h and u and g, and type that I support her, and try and emotionally cheer her up.

Thanks.

Wiccans - Positive
Other pagans - mostly positive
Buddhists - Positive
Atheists - Hit or miss - this one is about 50/50
Christian - Hit or miss - I'd say 60/40. 60 positive 40 negative
Other - To random to put a number to it

What do you think? What are your impressions?

I will be teaching 4th + 5th graders at my church in the fall and I would like to be a little to get a little more familiar with them.

Our Pastor encourages all of us to not just take his word when scripture is given, but to look it up.There is a question out right now that many have answered and its obvious that they took the questioners word for what he was saying.Sometimes these "new interpretations" of the Bible can really mess things up to.

I've noted people, Christians and otherswise indignantly claiming "Christians or WE aren't suppose to Judge"... There's NO verse that says that in the bible. "Do not judge lest you be judged. For in the way that you judge you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. "And why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? "Or how can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' and behold, the log is in your own eye? "You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye." (Matthew 7:1-5)
There's also a verse that says, "The spiritual man judges ALL things but he/she themselves are not subject to anyone's judgement 1 Corinthians 2:15-16 . Note: "first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly TO TAKE THE SPECK OUT OF YOUR BROTHER'S EYE." Rightous judements are necessary.

This is a sincere question, and is in no means asked to belittle or descredit one's opinions. May I ask for the same respect in return? Thanks to all in advance!

I'm not saying that there isn't but I was wondering if I could get some sources on that. As far as I know there is only one writing on Jesus outside of the Bible or the Quran. It would be interesting to read. :)

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a whole lot about science (I prefer to study words) so I usually stay out of the evolution debate when it gets technical. However, the TCPC (the Center for Progressive Christianity) website that I frequent recently linked to this other website that they say is a bridge for science and faith and I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm always wary of things that claim to reconcile Christianity and science because they're usually full of some really awful science, although the TCPC is usually good about these things.

So, all you people out there who are more educated than I am on the technical aspects of evolution, what do you think of this website?

Here's the URL:

I'm an atheist, my wife is Christian (but she cheats on me at UNO and monopoly and believes in reincarnation, so go figure).

Point is, shes going to teach Thomas that she believes in god and why,

We both take our son to the zoo and show him animals and explain how one animal became another.

I just gave best answer to someone who said that unlike atheists religious people allow their children to be exposed to other ideas.

---

My question to the other atheist parents who use Yahoo Answers Regularly is, will you be allowing your children to be exposed to religious ideas,

I for one would love to teach my son about the worlds religions and why all the different people believe different things,

you know why?

ITS THE ONLY WAY HE'S GOING TO FUNCTION IN MODERN SOCIETY

Make no mistake, I am Catholic so this isn't some dig against my own belief. I just found it interesting since there is Scriptual proof of reincarnation in the Catholic edition of the New American Bible in Matthew 17:10-13 when Jesus says that Elijah returned to earth in the form of John the Baptist.

The word "Lucifer" is found one time in the King James Bible.
Isaiah 14:12
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! (KJV)

Isaiah 14:12
12 How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations! (NIV)

Revelation 22:16
16"I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you[a] this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star." (NIV)

2 Peter 1:19
19And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (NIV)

Revelation 2:28
28I will also give him the morning star. (NIV)

I am a Christian so I believe that these types of things happen for a reason and that is God, but I'm just curious to know how atheists rationalize situations that occur by chance, luck, or coincidence.

And I ask this because it seems that most atheists are atheists because they rely on proof and evidence for everything... so how do situations of chance, luck, or coincidence happen?

Some people say that they'd be willing to die for another human being. I've added a new twist:

Would you be willing to go to Hell, if it would allow someone else to go to Heaven?

Why are people using natural logic and reason to try to disprove a book that provides supernatural assertions?

For 2000 years, the Bible hasn't been disproved. Isn't that significant? Doesn't that deserve some 'open-mindedness'?

You wonder why the Bible doesn't make sense to you? Look deeper. It's more than science. It's more than 'how'. It's 'why'.

Why would God try to prove himself with the Bible when the whole point of the Bible is to teach us salvation and how to get it? It's a matter of eternity, of serious importance.

Why don't you take it seriously? Is this all a joke? At least do it out of respect of Jesus, who lived a life beyond all of our standards.

:D
