Sorry I have one more question on the baby blessing in the Mormon church. What exactly is the purpose of giving the baby a "name"?? Where do they get the name?? This seems pretty cult-like to me???

I misread a question someone else asked and I thought, 'Hey, that's a good question'.
Having realised my mistake, I'll pose the question myself. . .
Where, in all this whole wide universe, where is there no God?
And what implications does that have for sin?

If someone tried to kill you, would you find difficulty in forgiving him?

Would you bless him if he were dying?

just like Hitler's Christian upbringing can't be used to say that christianity leads to violence,Stalin's atheism can't be used to say that atheism leads to violence.

i'm not a christian and neither am i without a religion,so please don't accuse me of being on any "side"...i'm just curious.

All you guys seem to do is biatch and moan with well worn quotes that you probably got from some other Atheists ranting and get your kicks from getting thumbs up from your fellow rebellious nonconformist buddies. If you’re not careful, you might end up like this guy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiqZaFkpH9E There’s even a guy here in this place going mad copying and pasting the same rant in which he compares Atheists to fundamentalist religious nuts. At first glance, I thought it was just another religious based attack on heathens, but he actually has a point. Who else thinks it’s time for Atheists to put up, or shut up?

For example, Christians ... Let's say that Zeus's existence was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Zeus routinely struck down those who fell out his favor with lightning bolts; he used his god powers to rape several women and conceive children with them; and he killed his own father to assume the position of king of the gods.

Just because he exists, should we worship him ... especially with that track record?

Anomalous lights in the sky, mysterious creatures, angelic figures, strange subhumans, people have always seen funny things throughout the ages. In western culture apparitions and visions have become discredited. They are unpopular and outlawed by official agents in our cultures, science, churches, academia or the press, hower they continue to disconcert us' UFOs, Virgin Marys, phantom animals, aliens, spiritual encounter and so on are seen all over the world.

To the believer and skeptic how do you weigh and measure these encounters and why do you believe or disbelieve????

3) HE HAS DONE AWAY WITH FALSE IDEAS AND PROVEN THAT THE POPE IS A HOMOSEXUAL.

I don't need to believe in Moses in order to be saved, but I do need to believe in Jesus... so why do mormons think that I need to believe in Joseph Smith in order to be saved?

Esp. after reading about all the cults & watching Big Love: I really think that's the case. Why can't a woman have more than one husband? What if a woman is unable to have kids (sterile) do they blood atone her or what? Some please explain to me this polygamous fundy crap. How the hell is having 3 or more wives & dressing in Little House on the Prarie outfits going to get you into heaven? Most fundies don't have PC's so they won't read this. I spit on your pediphilious prophet & I hope he gets life in prison! This is 2007: 15 y/o should not be FORCED to marry 50 y/o men religion or no religion. Once again I spit on the"profit"!

Hitler's religiosity -- he was a Catholic until his death -- is often glossed ... Biographer John Toland wrote of Hitler's religion
http://www.ffrf.org/fttoday/back/hitler.html.

Postwar Christian apologists have put perhaps their greatest efforts into creating the myth that Adolf Hitler was not a Christian. An entire cottage industry seems to have sprung up around the desire to perpetuate this myth, and while its motivations are perfectly understandable (who would want to be associated with Hitler in any way?), its dishonesty is unjustifiable. The truth, however uncomfortable, is still the truth?
Hitler's personal library reveal a deep but erratic interest in religion and theology.

I'm actually writing a database schema for a client's web application.

But given that so much of the bible is not rule ... more of a story ... what signifies writing as being divinely inspired? Is it only if it's in the bible?

I know that the Catholic church added divine writ explaining the ascension of Mary, which wasn't in the bible. Was that not divinely inspired?

I would like your help in an experiment. Without using any real or virtual reference or search engine write down all of the ten commandments that you can remember. If you got all 10 DON'T ANSWER PLEASE! All others -- Which one (or ones) did you forget? I only want to know which commandments aren't that important to a cross section of people.
Thanks

why is it that its ok for a christian to call wiccans crazy when everything about wiccan is natural and earth based? the earth exists does it not? how are we to know that an all powerful guy who sits in heaven deciding whats good and bad for humans exists just because a well written book states it?
i mean.....i read a good book about a dummy that can speak....but i didnt believe it
im open to anything anyone wants to believe, i think to have a religion and passion about something in this day n age is awesome and takes alot of strength, but dont slag others for their beliefs, no religion is scientifically proven n im sick of coping crap from non belivers when their beliefs are just as non proven

number of students who didn't have a proper knowledge of basic education even, wouldn't you say that (even though it's dependant on particular individuals) that the school really "doesn't seem to be doing a great job"?

similarly, compared to all the other religions in this world, throughout history, when most crime and heinous deeds seem to be done by people who have had christian upbringings, wouldn't you kind of think that there must be SOME reason for there to be so may people who have been brought up,and who claim to be christians and yet act so contrary to what they're taught?(i suppose islam would also fall into this category)

why are there not more people of other religions who have traumatized the world? how come as a percentage, generally people of other religions seem to actually follow the teachings and christianity has a lot of people who have been taught but don't follow?
