Oil, and when that runs out it'll be water. Watch out Brazil, you might soon have trenches along the Amazon.

It is most certainly religious fundamentalism. China needs oil and is not fighting with anybody. And China has the largest standing army in the world.
It is religious fundamentalism, because the Christian fundamentalists carry the burden of believing that they are superior to everyone else and since they are 'saved' and the 'heathens' or 'infidels' are not Christians, the Christian fundamentalists are somehow entitled to enslave whole nations, rape and pillage all their assets and resources, and the people there are supposed to be grateful, since missionaries will also spread the word of 'God' and tell them that Jesus will reward them for putting up with this crap now by giving them a place in heaven in the next life.
It would be pathetic, except that the fundamentalist Christians are perplexed as to why the MIddle East is not overjoyed to receive this attention.
This ruse worked on sub-Saharan Africa, Australia, North and South America, and other areas such as India (for a time). But it will never work in the Middle East, because all the myths and stories fueling Christian fundamentalism originated there, along with Western civilization itself.
I guess we'll have to wait for Christianity to be relegated to the same folktales category as the stories of Zeus and Jupiter, Thor and Wodin before this all goes away . . . .

First, America is far from being ruled by fundamentalists, even if you're referencing Bush as a fundamentalist. He is hardly "ruling". Perhaps you're unaware of the democratic republic we live in.
Second, the Middle East is ruled by a variety of leaders, many of whom are fundamentalist Muslims, but some are not. What we can observe there is the nature of the religion that comes out of the Qu'ran. Have you read it, by the way? It is a bloody, wicked book!!!
The result of the founding father's vision in this country has been eminent leadership, success and overall, the greatest and most compassionate, freest land in the history of mankind. And I'm sorry those who don't agree with that; they ought not live here.

Id say its another Waco in the middle east.
Sometimes it raises its ugly head here.
Everytime we retaliate there goes the gas
right out the cieling.
Then we are all affected by it.
What a pickle.
Id say because of what we believe we are
considered evil and they are the ones casting the first stone.
What we are doing now I would say is a
quick fix until we are not as dependent on
foriegn oil, so we dont have to do as much
business with the unstable middle east.
Definetely started with the oil and now esculated into a holy war, by a rock throwing
religious group over there with the plans of
hiking oil prices, you tell me whos more evil.
I wouldnt execute people who blow up things
in the name of Allah.
Id say gouge out there eyes for being judges of what is evil.

Only if you call freedom and rights a fundamentalist religion.
Do they still teach the Vietnam war was stoped by pulling out US forces in the US do they? All that did was to allow the slaughter to start. Try not to think so selfishly and consider the suffering and potential suffering that is occuring throughout the world every day due to poverty and violence. The US is not the bad guy, but uneducated whinging citizens do make it happen from time to time...

In my opinion, America is fighting for justice and safety now. It is being overcome by islamic terrorism which is all over the world. Therefore although both are religious fundamentalists, their paths are different.
But this is my opinion and I could be wrong.

Perhaps it's just me, but 655,000 dead Iraqis and we're still paying over $3.00 for a gallon of gas? Kind of blows the hell out of the theory that we invaded Iraq for their oil...
With regards to your statement concerning religious fundamentalism and how it applies to the ongoing fighting I offer this quote for your consideration:
"What makes you think that human beings are sentient and aware? There's no evidence for it. Human beings never think for themselves, they find it too uncomfortable. For the most part, members of our species simply repeat what they are told - and become upset if they are exposed to any different view. The characteristic human trait is not awareness but conformity, and the characteristic result is religious warfare.
Other animals fight for territory or food; but, uniquely in the animal kingdom, human beings fight for their "beliefs." The reason is that beliefs guide behavior, which has evolutionary importance among human beings. But at a time when our behavior may well lead us to extinction, I see no reason to assume we have any awareness at all. We are stubborn, self-destructive conformists. Any other view of our species is a self-congratulatory delusion. "

You can pick the order. It also doesn't help that the countries are also ruled by small minded poorly educated megalomaniacs.
