This is probably going to elicit a lot of unnecessary remarks, but I gotta ask anyway. Our pastor is stepping down this Sunday after a long period of inconstistency and instability. My husband is an elder of this congregation and he's at a loss for words as to what to say to the congregation. They'll be heartbroken as are we. We have tried everything possible within reason to get the pastor to stay, but he has simply lost the passion for the ministry. That's putting it mildly actually. With tears in his eyes, my husband asks me, "What do I say to these people? They'll be devastated." I'm at a loss myself, perhaps because I am hurt as well. Any suggestions?

My experience is that few Christians really buy into much of the Bible, but I think different parts of the country are much more "Bible Believing."

Jesus also said, "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves." (Matthew 7:15). By Sheep's Clothing was he referencing wool, hence the $4000 Italian suits worn by the likes of Benny Hinn, Jim Baker, et al are a fulfillment of that prophecy??

Should they follow Deuteromony?

17:2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

Let's say you are living in the 2nd century CE, and it is the first time you've ever encountered any of the Gospels. They are not yet a part of a recognized canon. You want to know, are these really true and from God?

Do you think you would have been able to discern if they were true or not? Would you have reached the same conclusion as you have today?

What would you do to decide? Would you compare them and see if they agreed? What would you do if they disagreed? Would you have assumed that one must be wrong?

I think it is the anonimity that frees us. There is no reason to try to impress or deceive. We are free to be who we are.

This is me! Take it or leave it.

Early manuscripts have been shown not to include these verses. The Gospel of Mark would end with Jesus' body disapearing, and there would be no witnesses to Jesus living after his death.

Because verses weren't in the original text, does it bother you that some monk decided to add them to bolster the story of the resurrection and subsequent ascension into heaven?

Does it cause you to wonder if there are other parts of the Gospel stories that were added/fabricated/embellished to strengthen early Christian doctrine and bolster beliefs?

My main issue here is the inability of the non-Muslim group remaining coherent as a group, considering the groups (i.e. Christians and Atheist) that would fall into it.
