Should they follow Deuteromony?

17:2 If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

17:3 And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

17:4 And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel:

17:5 Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

The bible is perfectly clear on this:

"But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me."
(Jesus according to Luke 19:27, KJV)

Jesus here is clearly telling us to kill non-Christians.

You are MISAPPLYING the law. It is NO LONGER in effect...

Ephesians 2:15 Through his body on the cross, Christ put an END to the LAW WITH ALL ITS COMMANDS AND RULES. He wanted to create one new group of people out of the two. He wanted to make peace between them.

Colossians 2:14 He wiped out the written Law with its rules. The Law was against us. It opposed us. He took it away and nailed it to the cross.

Galatians 2:16 ...No one can be made right with God by obeying the law.

Galatians 2:21 ...What if a person could become right with God by obeying the law? Then Christ died for nothing!

Galatians 5:4 Some of you are trying to be made right with God by obeying the law. You have been separated from Christ. You have fallen away from God’s grace... The ONLY verse that talks about falling from grace, and they did it by trying to follow the law!

Jesus said he didn’t come to destroy the law, but to fulfill it. (Matt 5:17) The effect was the same. Once fulfilled it was no longer in effect. The very next verse, Matthew 5:18, looks forward to the time when the law would be set aside. "...Not even the smallest stroke of a pen will disappear from the Law UNTIL EVERYTHING IS COMPLETED." IF the law were intended to be permanent, the "UNTIL..." clause would be meaningless.

On the cross, Jesus' last recorded saying, "It is finished," is an important milestone. Because of Jesus life, Satan had been defeated. The law was finished and would no longer stand between God and mankind.

The 10 commandments along with the rest of the law ("commands and rules" from Ephesians 2:15) were "set aside" when they were fulfilled or completed at Jesus' resurrection. We are no longer bound by that law.

Hmm Deuteromony is in the Old Testament so would be addressed to Jews, not Christians.

I am not Biblical scholar but when Jesus was asked what was the most important commmandment, he said to love. Not to love ony Christians, but to love. Then there is the story of the good Samaritan. I think you need to educate yourself before you ask questions.

Deuteronomy was talking about Jews and non-Jews. There was no jesus yet.

The "bible" doesn't say anything of any kind about non-christians. Not one word. I can prove it: find the word "christian" in the bible...you can't, it's not there. No christians, no non-christians. Those are all inventions of much later people.

Oh, and all you people who said the mosaic OT law doesn't apply anymore because jesus fulfilled it...they WHY do you keep quoting the 10 commandments (mosaic law), and WHY do you keep using that Leviticus scripture against homosexuality??!! You can't have it both ways. Either the OT rules apply or they don't -- which is it? Make up your minds!

Peace.

So old Deuteronomy is basically saying Kill them. To all the bible thumping christian lunatics out there, sounds like it the same thing many of you claim Islam condones. The hole religion thing is so incredibly silly. Be spiritual, you'll go allot farther and may not justify killing so much.

Personally, I'd fire up some BC Bud joints with them and call it even.

Uh, I think that Jesus already answered your question 2k years ago.

The passage that you quoted is talking about Jews, you nit-wit. According to Jesus, Peter, and Paul, Christians are not obligated to follow the parts of the Law of Moses which only served to set apart Israel as a Nation (Acts 15, for example).

--------------------------------------
"You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
~Jesus (Matthew 5:43-48 (NIV))

Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people. He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean. So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?"
~Acts 10:27-29 (NIV)

By the very description of the people in question... "Christians", a Christian is required to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ; not Deuteronomy.

Jesus commands his disciples to announce that the kingdom of heaven would soon be here.

Read Matthew 28:18-20, known as the "Great Commission," then come back and ask questions about what to do with non-believers. Also, Jesus does say to love your neighbour as yourself, so think about that one as well. By the way, your Scripture reference has too many thees and thous for me to understand what the hell it says, so don't use King James anymore when quoting the Bible on Yahoo! Answers please. Thank you.

Believers beware, god eats Christians:

Rev chap 3
14: "And to the angel of the church in La-odice'a write: `The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God's creation.

15: "`I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot!

16: So, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of my mouth.

Pull your head out of the old testament when you want to ask a question like this

All through the New Testament we are told to love our neighbor, and speak the truth.- the Gospel of God

Well, if you follow the OT - then kill us. Which doesn't really sound appealing - or part of a plan for a loving God. I personally think that is more based in human hate, fear and ignorance then in God's will.

In the NT you're supposed to love us, but not hang out with us. Because we are the darkness and Christians are the light. And dark and light do not mix. Which sounds a little better. Until the end when we all get cast into hell by God.
