Really? Then why does he create the illusion of an elusive paradise, then give us free will........ to see if we choose the right path or not? Choosing the right path means eternal life(heaven).

Well, this free will is skewed by fear. You are trying to please him because you fear hell. You are trying to do good, in order to avoid sin, which is something that you fear, because it eliminates your changes for getting in.

I think the majority of atheists are in this specific area of Y! answers so you can show God how compassionate you can be in HIS name. Remember, forgive them for they know not what they do. If you truly want to be Christ-like, act like him for HIS sake!

My mother and I have been butting heads every since I was a child. She has done some pretty mean things to me such as kicking me out of the house when I was 8 yrs. old (she came back for me)and then again at 14 yrs. old (permanently). I am 25 yrs old and married now. She tries to control my life. She treats me as if im 12 yrs old and if I don't do as she says, she will degrade me. She says mean things like "I didn't have to bring you into this world..." (she wanted an abortion but my grandparents told her not to do it) Why would a parent tell their offspring something like that? Honestly, I don't like her and wish she would leave me alone. She is driving me nuts. I know in the Bible it say honor your mother and father, but how do you honor someone that treats you less than a human being? Please pray for me.

What is your opinion or belief regarding the idea that we are born with sin?

What makes you think this?

If one cannot enter heaven if they have sin, then how can anyone enter it?

I live in the southern US, and I've been confused about this whole "saving" process. I'm a Lutheran and I believe in the Savior Jesus Christ. But what do I say to Southern Baptists and Pentecostals that say I must go to the front of the church and be dunked in a tub of water to go to Heaven?

According to Christianity, God gave us free will, but every time we use it, he doesn't like the results.

The way I see it, he had three sensible choices:

1 - Make people with free will, and accept the fact that we won't always do things he likes. Realize that it's his own fault, and not blame us.

2 - Make people without free will. Boring and predictable, but at least we'll never do anything he doesn't like.

3 - Since he's supposed to be all-powerful, make people who somehow have free will AND never do anything that he doesn't like. Hey, if he can do ANYTHING, why not?

Instead it seems to me that he made people with free will, who do things he doesn't like, and he blames US for being the way we are when HE made us this way.

My question is this: Why didn't God pick one of the 3 sensible options I outlined above?

I found this while being "open minded". http://www.nobeliefs.com/jesus.htm
If this is the kind of filth they are filling their heads with I'm not surprised they hate us. The absolute, unadulterated, and unapologetic lack of scholarship is astounding. Where is the objectivity, the hermeneutics, or even a little exegesis. This guy blatantly inserts his own ideas of morality into the reading of the text. His truly literal reading allows for no hyperbole, metaphor, or even the slightest symbolic language, common literary techniques. However, I must confess he did come to one of the only three possible interpretations, "Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or the Lord." C.S. Lewis, and this dude has decided on the liar, maybe the lunatic. The lack of understanding of cultural and social norms of the time is glaring. This is truly an example of ignorance and hatred of that which is good. They call us intolerant, judgmental, and hateful. From now on I'll take that as high praise.

Anyone really believe that the speaking in tongues means anything? Just read some articles published by an eminent professor which say that even though the person may be having some kind of experience, it is down to the electrical activity of certain little-studied parts of the brain. It feels real at the time, but so does a dream.

Anyone got experience of it?

God said that he took soil from the earth which is brown .he didnt get white sand from the beaches.and he made man. then after they committed sin they were kicked out of the Garden then after more ppl were produced they moved further north and their colors changed with their surroundings. so they had to fight for everthing the lighter skinned ppl (whites)became hostile and introduced slavery wich is basically what whites did throughout history. plz don't think this a racist comment from a black but whites did take from other races .

the races shall not mix? I know the languages were babbeled to prevent them communicating, but what exactly does it say about mixing (relationship wise) and if you do, you go to hell? I have been told this quite a few times since I moved deeper into the south.
