Religion & Spirituality - 28 January 2007

[Selected]: All categories Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

Each of the world's major religions has scriptures that are considered sacred and lay the foundation for a believer's faith. It's odd that our epistemological standards seem to vary largely based on the situation. When it comes to the evening paper or a doctor's advice, "have faith" isn't an acceptable reassurance (we understand these people are human). What makes people so certain that the authors of their holy texts were any less prone to human fallibility? It seems that time has afforded them the luxury of divine inspiration. The ubiquity of religion/spirituality throughout the world clearly demonstrates that seeking purpose is an innately human activity that is influenced by factors such as the environment and cultural history. Shouldn't we at least try to verify the origins of beliefs that so divide us? Is there a point to which "I have faith" becomes an inadequate substitute for doing some serious unbiased (as in, the truth above all else) research?

So many of us try to fit too much into our daily lives that we forget to include God. God is the answer to all our questions. We only need to ask Him into our hearts and He will take care of the rest. Put your faith into our Lord and Saviour and you will be amazed at how much you will be able accomplish...Jeremiah 33:3

By definition, the word “spiritual” simply means a feeling of oneness with the universe or a creator or some kind.

Creationism, which is based on one source, the bible. A book by human beings. At a time when the knowledge of the world was limited. Says that humans were created in the image of the designer of the universe. That humans are created SEPERATELY from all other life in the planet. That humans are the most important species on this planet and in the universe.
Or...
Evolution through natural selection, which is based on science, a study of the natural world. Many observations, experiments and lab work, reveals that all life on this planet is indeed CONNECTED. That all life shares a common evolutionary heritage and a common organic chemistry. If you go back far enough into earth’s past, you will that all biological life alive today, humans included, have a common and single ancestor.

Which is a more “spiritual” experience, oneness with god
or oneness with the cosmos?

Just one thing... WHAT paths are considrered pagan?!

just a randomt hough...heres my theory.

it depends if hell expands or does not.

EVERY religion says that if you dont believe int his religion you are going to hell.

therefor we can base that everyone is going to hell.

if hell does not expand it will eventually run out of room from every single person dieing taking up that space and thus the body heat makes it impossible for it to freeze over.

now then lets assume it expands.

if it expands at a rate in wich it is faster then people entering over time there will be less and less heat and over time may 'freeze over' in certain places.

if it expands at a slower rate there is the other above suggestion.

if it expands at the same rate it will probably remain slightly warm =)

opinions?XD

(dont ask where this originated from)
