I dont know many churches personally that are forbidden to hang out with anyone at all... if they are, then yes indeed it is a cult.

The leaders of the churches, Wiccan circles, Islamic center, Unitarian Universalist fellowship, and Quaker group with which our Humanist community works on community service projects every month have not forbidden their congregations to work alongside us. Thus far we've had no difficulty setting aside our differences to concentrate on the task at hand: helping our neighbors live better lives. We're all in this together, and we need all the help we can get.

Cause atheists are contrary. They won't let people believe in stuff just for the fun of it.
Plus, even if there were a God, the atheists would still deny it. They are just plain contrary, not only that they don't bathe. And the only time they shower is when it rains.
So your pastor knows whereof he speaks.
Stay away from the atheists, and believe whatever you damn well please.
If you believe in Eve's talking snake, or that Jesus ascended, calmly and with precision, into the clouds, before zooming to heaven; that's your right; and the athesist should mind their own business.

It's the whole, "Be in the world but not of it," idea. It's okay to talk to nonchristians to tell them about Christ, but if you hang out with them too much you may get negatively influenced by them (as in their worldly priorities and concerns, etc). Also if you watch secular TV and listen to secular music.
And yes, this is extremely cultlike of them. Seriously, if you talk to some Christians it's like talking to a Martian: "Who's Angelina Jolie? Oh, I don't watch movies."

They are afraid that the atheist, will point out, yes, I am burning in the fire, yet I am not scorched. So that would tend to blow, all that the preacher has taught you.

I can't speak for every church, but at mine we are in no way encouraged to separate ourselves from non-Christians, in fact, the opposite is true.
