Besides tasting like hate. What would the flavor be like?

The "free will" concept clearly has no bearing on these events...so why is it that everything good/positive that happens is ascribed to "god'-and everything bad that happens is ascribed to "something else" (even be it the hapless victim his/herself)...this makes NO sense at all! I feel that the ancients were on the right track-viewing human events as simply the result of moves made upon the gods' chess board...

Whether you like it or not, Christmas is not the only holiday celebrated this time of year. So why get offended when a stranger says Happy Holidays?

Think about it, you should be happy. They don't know what religion you follow, and to avoid offending you by labelling a religion to you that could be false, they wish you Happy Holidays.

For example, just because someone may look Muslim, does not mean that they are. There are thousands of arabic people who are Catholic or Christian.

See what I mean?

I, myself, celebrate Christmas (not because of religious ideologies, but because I was raised celebrating it) and don't get offended by Happy Holidays. I don't even get offended if a Jew wished me Happy Hanukkah. Why? Because these holidays are celebrated with love and peace.

And that....is my two cents.

Oh! And not to mention that people say Happy Holidays to include New Years. Two birds, one stone.

we read history, try to learn that things but after a while we forget to
implement it in our life and at the very end we deny our mistake, so in this way we deny the gist of history and try to submit it in a false way.

As far as teaching them that the fantasy of Santa Clause is real, and truly worthy of debate. Don't you think that you are inviting them to think that Jesus is a fantasy too when they finally realize that Santa isn't real, or the tooth fairy or the Easter bunny?

Athiests: we know you think it's all fantasy~ so this question isn't really warranting your opinion.

Is there any event in the Bible, that if discovered as historically accurate with proof, would make you reconsider its accuracy, and in turn reconsider God?

My hubby is Agnostic, and a very intelligent and educated man, who was raised in a hard core religious home. We were having a discussion last night, and one of the things we talked about prompted the question. (I dont want to change him mind, or yours, simply curious)

For example, if there was proof of an event, such as the flood, Noahs ark was really found, and I mean really, not just some pic somewhere, or the ArC of the Covenant, or proof of say the 10 plauges, would you re-think your belief?

Proof of what event would be significant to you?

Again, curious only, not the kind of girl whose going to go find some half truth propoganda and throw it at you!

Do they really not approve? Or do they stifle a laugh before their personal sabotage of 'my' human rights and 'my' freedom of speech?

It is impossible for me to believe that 100% of religious people have exactly the same lack of humour.

Since Intelligence can be measured and there are different levels. Doesn't that proof without a doubt that an infinite level of intelligence exists.

And since it takes a great deal of intelligence to understand the laws of the universe. Doesn't that proof that our universe was built or created by intelligence?

It can't be overlooked that many people are religious because of the obvious benefits of the church itself: communities, a place for spiritual and inner growth, a day of rest, quiet contemplation.

Perhaps atheism would be more widely adopted it some kind of secular, naturalistic worldview component could fill the void?

Science and philosophy could certainly provide better, more thorough, and more progressive avenues for personal growth and fulfillment. There would be no more liberal theologians awkwardly defending the virgin birth, but and the handicap of faith wouldn't restrict the advancement of the church unit itself.

Has anyone else considered this? If atheists are serious about pulling people away from faith, shouldn't they consider how to fill the social and psychological void that a church fills?

I've sinned. Not like killing someone but some pretty big sins in the eyes of Christianity. Should I be forgiven?

Should I be forgiven if I'm not sure I believe what I did was a sin?

What do you think?

How do I learn to forgive if I am angry?

Any quotes or suggested further reading would be great - not just biblical ones either! Although of course these are always helpful...

If I write about my girlfriend, I use much bigger words than I would use if I wasn't so much in love with her.

The writers of the Bible absolutely adored God, and the Bible is filled with stories that are, to say it mildly, a little 'too much', a little over the top.

So, does the Bible truly teach me an unbiased view on God, or is it not really objective?

I just read that a woman was beaten in a bus in Jerusalem by the Orthodox "modesty patrol". I wonder if the difference between orthodox jews and Muslim fundamentalists is just a matter of degree.

None of our beliefs can be concretely proven and are merely our hopes of what is and will be. We can personally have felt convicted that our belief is true but we CANNOT prove it, without a doubt, to someone that prefers to discount it. So aren't you all wasting a lot of time and effort trying to do this?

There is a story in Sahih Bukhary about prophet Muhammed who was spending the day at one of his wives' homes (Hafsa) and he gave her a permission to go and visit her parents, then he invited his concubine (sex slave) Maria to have sex with her.

Unfortunately, his wife (Hafsa) caught him and she was angry at him so that he swore to her not to touch his concubine (Maria) ever since. However, after a few days god revealed two verses from the Quran to prophet Muhammed allowing him to have sex with Maria and blaming him for not enjoying her [66: 1-2].

The whole story is mentioned in Sahih Bukhary and also in the Quran (see the link in its original Arabic language):

http://quran.al-islam.com/Tafseer/DispTafsser.asp?nType=1&bm=&nSeg=0&l=arb&nSora=66&nAya=1&taf=KATHEER&tashkeel=0

I was shocked to read that story because I have always thought that prophet Muhammed had never had sex outside marriage. Does this story stand with what we know about prophet Muhammed's high morals?
