I go to a lutheran church, and have for my entire life. Now I have recently begun conformation, and I have come to the conclusion that conformation is a pointless ceremony, and it is not even in the bible. Also, why are babies babtized? Isn't that taking away from your free will? Becuase babtisim is to recieve the holy spirit. Shouldn't it be your choice to recieve the holy spirt, not have it forced on you when you are too young to know what is happening? I guess my main question here is; what do you think of the lutheran church and religion? What is your view on batisim? And what sect of Christianity sticks to the bible and has no ceremonies that were made up and aren't in the bible?

If Jesus came in the flesh and said God is real; and aliens from a far off distant galaxy came behind Him and said God is not real; Who would you believe? And Why?

I recently read somewhere that women in afghanistan have no right and are increasingly killing themselves because the abuse of men and thier religious beliefs. Why must women wear veils? Also I read where a top evangelican official stepped down because he wanted to help the poor, instead of only focus on gay-marriage and abortion. Why do the religious right think they always have the right answer and can't leave thier opinions to themselves.

In response to a very popular recent post.
Please try and forget ALL scientific explanations as science has been searching for God without success since the middle ages. We are all preoccupied by day to day lives that we have forgot why science began- to find the answer to existence. There has been no answer, just the same ideas with a little logic thrown in. Logic does not tackle the theory of "I" with an open mind, if at all.
ANYWAY: "I" am given life; "I" am then judged; "I" am sent back if my application into 'Gods kingdom' is rejected; to be sent back to the known world is to be sent back to hell where all worldly desires and temptations belong; each time i have a feeling of 'deja vu' i am being reminded of a wrong path choice; each time "I" am sent back is a chance to judge myself, to see the errors of my ways previously; each time "I" am sent back the feelings of 'deja vu' become stronger; or judgement day is God looking over my life through my eyes which seem like a lifetime?

Or at least what it's been reduced to for the past umpteen years?

Santa baby, slip a sable under the tree, for me
I've been an awful good girl
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, an out-of-space convertible too, light blue
I'll wait up for you dear
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Think of all the fun i've missed
Think of all the fellas that i haven't kissed
Next year i could be oh so good
If you'd check off my christmas list
Boo doo bee doo

Santa honey, i wanna yacht and really that's
Not a lot
I've been an angel all year
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa cutie, there's one thing i really do need, the deed
To a platinum mine
Santa cutie, and hurry down the chimney tonight

Santa baby, i'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks
Sign your 'x' on the line
Santa baby, and hurry down the chimney tonight
Santa baby, i'm filling my stocking with a duplex, and checks
Sign your 'x' on the line

I know this sounds crazy but...Since last year I keep seeing this number 35 popping up so much it's hard to ignore. (tv, radio, general conversation) What does it mean if anything? Or could it be all coincidence? It's so bizarre.

Doesn't it involve a lot of vanity, body-selling type of mindsets? Is that consistent with Christian values? Should attractive Christian girls who would have an opportunity at this thing avoid them?

why don't you believe in God? I mean, it is the best country to live in, and the chances of being born in the USA are so slim, it is almost irrational to not believe in God.

as the years go by, society and government tries to push god futher and further away, one day their wish will come true in silencing god. but that day will be all but to late for those who will be left behind, when my lord and savior comes for his children who are saved, which is also known as the rapture. will you be ready? remember our time is not like god's time. in no way can he be rushed. everyone of us has a purpose in life, what you may think is your will is not your own! do you honestly think the job you have, the prosperity, the car you drive and the home you live in is all done by your will? think again it is gods will when you are born that you will accept the gift in which he wants to give to you which is the holy spirit. without salvation how do you think you will ever be saved! the word saved means just that, god is saving you from the sins, and corruption of the world. saving you from the pitts of hell. if you don't know jesus, nows the time. even satan believes in god.

I have been confronted with numerous occasions in school where I just went along with it. I have sat at a table where most of the people were talking about this person who didn't believe, and they kept saying 'Man, she's going to hell.' And I just couldn't bring myself to speak up and point out the ridiculousness in that. My whole family is devoutly religous, and almost everyone in the community I live in, and I often hear them making illogical, hypocritical statements but I can never bring myself to give my opinion on it in fear they might isolate me in some way if I don't act as they do, and believe what they believe.

What should I Do? I know I can really put some of these statements my friends and family are making on a regular basis in the dust with evidence backed, thought provoking responses, but is it worth the risk of losing good friends, or, I wonder could it even endanger what my parents think of me if I didn't believe there is some dictator sitting in the sky?

In my opinion, religion and sceince are both vital (and they should be kept separate!).

But perhaps atheists are immune to the kinds of questions that most humans seem, by our very nature, to be driven to seek answers to; the questions religion addresses.

Would you say that those kinds of questions are irrelevant, or just plain unanswerable, or what? I'm trying to understand a view so very different from my own.

There is no way to know the Unknowable and ANYONE who claims to KNOW for sure what we all should think is simply mistaken. None of us will know for sure until it is too late to matter.

What do you think?
