Doesn't it involve a lot of vanity, body-selling type of mindsets? Is that consistent with Christian values? Should attractive Christian girls who would have an opportunity at this thing avoid them?

I did professional modeling for 7 years. And I'm a Christian. For me it's a matter of discerning, knowing what's right and what's rong. I was picky of the job that was given to me. I only posed for respectfull women magazines, and cosmetic product. I didn't do bikini, swimming suit or anything that show part of my body.
no partying for me, no alcohol, and especially no drugs. For me it's just a job to get me through college.

As with anything, you MUST know who you are dealing with. If you are an attractive Christian and want to share your attractive smile to entice clothing shoppers, there's nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately, most money is made from pornography and most marketing concepts are more interested in a sexual message than a wholesome one. That means that you will be surrounded by photographers and marketers that will be looking to exploit your sexuality, most of the time. But there are SOME agencies and businesses that are more reputable and sensitive to these concerns. Consider the websites below to start looking.

As long as your not vain or falling into the temptations of that world, then no nothing is wrong with it. You can even be beautiful and look your best and not necessarily be vain. As a matter of fact Christians are needed everywhere. A Christian model could set a great example to other models. Most models and actors are not doing as well as we always think they are. They may have money, but the rest of theirs lives are unhappy and they could use someone in their midst that can make money and still be happy and keep their morals. Beauty is a blessing from God, not a curse and God wants us to use His blessings for Him. Don't feel guilty for wanting something like that. Just remember to pray to God to give you strength to resist temptations and be a positive force for Him. Good luck.

The part that turned me off most from that idea wasn't the vanity so much as all the soft porn and body exposure involved.

I suppose there are some models out there that will only wear modest clothes, and not physically starve themselves or anything like that, and I say - more power to them, the young women of our world need to see more positive examples like that.

I have known Christian girls that got into modeling. I don't see a problem with it. I know lots of Christian girls who are incredibly vain with out being models. It has more to do with your own mind set and attitude. There may be conflicts with the type of advertisements, products or poses. Just be mindful of situations that you can get in to in that type of a job.

It's probably unChristian, but it isn't indecent. Your body really isn't a bad thing. You shouldn't be afraid of displaying it for people to see. If you are beautiful, then why hide your beauty?

In my opinion, vanity is not a bad thing as long as it isn't taken to an extreme. You have to have some pride in yourself. If you can't love yourself, how are you going to love others?

A friend of my was an erotic dancer, then a bartender for many years. She currently works at a high tech company contracting to the government. She's a great person and I highly respect her. I don't consider her to be vain at all. She's doing well.

Personally I see nothing wrong with that, depending on how it's done. If, for example, it involved posing nude or nearly nude, then no, it would not be decent for a Christian to do.
And it doesn't require a person to be vain, I don't think.
Christians should be grateful if God made them beautiful enough to be a model.
If I was attractive enough, I would see nothing wrong with becoming one myself.

I am not a Christian. This very question is one of the reasons that I am not. Some "Christian values" are rooted in a book filled with ridiculous dogma. All girls should use common sense, do only what feels right for them.

Yes and no. I agree that it is representing a picture of the world rather than a picture of God. But I wouldn't consider it sinful or evil or unchristian we still live in this world and while I would agree there maybe more wholesome professions there are also less wholesome ones.
