Son, that doesn't make a lick of sense. If I was "sure" you were about to get run over by a bus, would you think it a good thing if I stopped warning you?
But I can be convinced to go easy on you if, for starters, you ...
- Stay out of the curriculum of our schools
- Stop trying to turn nations in theocracies
- Quit attacking science

Excuse me? There is far more religious preaching than there is "preaching" from atheists. Atheists are just trying to counter the irrationality that comes from extremist religious beliefs.

Because religion leads to superstition, lack of evidence-based reasoning and legislation, hatred, violence, and descrimination. Just look around you. Gay rights, women's rights, civil rights movements all held back by religion. Wars started over small religious differences (look at Ireland). 23% of Americans think we should try the equivalent of a nazi regime when it comes to Muslims. Women's reproductive rights, as well as basic health rights, are being legislated.

The world would be better off if people just realized that they don't need religion.

I've seen a rash of "I can prove God exists" questions lately, yet not a single one has been able to cough it up. I believe the burden of proof is on the believer, not the disbeliever. I believe in God, but there is no proof either way.

I see atheists respond to questions. They also ask interesting questions.

If they initiate thought in all of us, what is wrong with that?

It is the religious fanatics that are on the attack as well as do the preaching.

THEY AREN'T. They're trying to tell you to butt out of everyone elses business. You have no business trying to make YOUR RELIGION into secular law or harassing people that don't believe about YOUR RELIGION.

An Atheist doesn't bang on your door just to talk about how your god doesn't exist. But Christians sure as hell do.

Because many xians are trying everyday to have their agenda pushed down my throat. To ban abortion, morning-after pills, HPV vaccinations, gay rights, etc... So they have lost their immunity from criticism and ridicule (if they ever had one which the crusades and inquisition would preclude).

And it p**** me off when they tell some woman in the pregnancy section who asks if abortion is an option that god gave her that baby. It ENRAGES me to read that shite. What about the women who can't get pregnant? What about those who need expensive and extensive medical intervention to get pregnant? That is highly insulting, condescending, and idiotic. So I vent my spleen at those xians, yes.

i actually gave up on it a while ago for that exact reason. i only start trying to convice people i'm right when they try to convince me they're right. then it's just a form of getting back at them.
and some of us (i.e. me) don't believe there is no god, just that it's not the god of the bible or quaran or whatever.

Probably for some of the same reasons Christians and other groups share their religion. Most of us feel the need to share our "truths" with people who don't see the world as we do.

I'm Atheist and I don't try to convince anyone. I try to make people understand why I don't believe in any gods so that they can see my point of view, but I in no way want to "convert" people to Atheism. But in return, I expect people to not try to convert me. I've heard of your god, I don't care. Let's all believe in what makes us happy, and leave other people alone.
