I recently read somewhere that women in afghanistan have no right and are increasingly killing themselves because the abuse of men and thier religious beliefs. Why must women wear veils? Also I read where a top evangelican official stepped down because he wanted to help the poor, instead of only focus on gay-marriage and abortion. Why do the religious right think they always have the right answer and can't leave thier opinions to themselves.

There are so many religions on this Planet, it would be hard to count them all, but one thing they all have in common is the belief in the Creator, called by many names. The one factor that Religion has taught us, and is teaching us today, no one WINS in a Religious War, just look at the shape the World is in now! As far as I am concerned, civilization has not advanced, we are still killing each other over Religion and time has taught us that there will be NO WINNERS.We cannot make people believe in Democracy, when we are delivering Death and Destruction to all four corners of this globe! Forcing people to change into something they know nothing about. You question is a Prime Example of a Nation forcing its' beliefs on another Country. A Country hardly any US Citizen even knew existed before this carnage began, and now look, who is forcing who here?

Though I am not by any means religious, I disagree that religion is the problem. Moreso, it's what some people do with it. There are plenty of people out there, who follow a religion, and utilize it to do good. The problem is people. Religion is merely an effective and frequently used means of justifying and encouraging irrationality. Irrationality that would still exist, with or without religion. Look at the gay marriage issue, for example. Our lawmakers can't discriminate against gays for religious reasons, but even without it, they manage to develop some nonsensical b/s to justify their prejudice.

Because that's what man made and counterfeit religion is designed to do. Whenever man tries to follow rules written by man, the results are always disastrous.

In contrast, the Bible commands to practice the only true religion there is, that being ministering to the widows and the fatherless in their affliction.

Adam, if you mean by persecuted, hated, and angry, then yes it did.

To the original poster, I agree with you. They can't seem to understand the concept that their religion shouldn't impact secular life. It keeps people from moving forward because they're terrified at what they might discover.
