There is no way to know the Unknowable and ANYONE who claims to KNOW for sure what we all should think is simply mistaken. None of us will know for sure until it is too late to matter.

What do you think?

william r - this question is for you and people like you more than anythng else. How can minding my own business be dangerous? How can you actually belong to a loving religion like Christianity and follow the teachings of someone who said we are all god's children and not understand this simple point. I think that is a shame and so great a contradiction, that I suggest you speak to your clergy about this issue.

ever since I have been coming here I have said that GOD is to big to be in only one place. the only major differences between one Religion and another are the NAMES they refer to GOD as along with the various Rituals and Ceremonies they use to Adore, Honor, Worship, Praise, Pray and Petition, Thank, Etc. Etc. their idea of GOD. there are many paths and ways to get to ones destination such as walking, riding a bike, a motorcycle, take a train, a bus, a plane, etc. these will all get one to their destination which is the important thing -- not how.

Religion is some way for persons to situation all their unanswered lifestyles questions quickly out of the best way to pay attention to matters going down now (like a miscellaneous dossier on a pc) . People suppose a way of reassurance and safety in the event that they realize all their questions shall be replied on the finish, in order that they preserve believing. I consider of faith as an overly tall constructing with stairs and an elevator. The elevator possibly quicker however take a incorrect step and down you cross. On the opposite hand you might use the steps and feature a secure passage to the highest. Maybe a couple of falls right here and there however you'll get again up. Everyone's unique, comply with your intuition and you can discover the best way.

because Jesus said in the Bible, "I am THE way, THE truth and THE life. NO ONE comes to the father but by ME." -John 14-6
It sounds pretty exclusive to me, kinda like there is only one way. And i believe the Bible is right and that Jesus was the Son of God, because there is much historical evidence. i like how CS Lewis stated it:
we are faced with one of three options in relating to Jesus, due to the fact that He claimed to be God:

1. Jesus was a liar-since He claimed to be God, either He was, or else He was lying about it. And why would such a good, selfless man and teacher, who preached against lying, and DIED for us, lie?

2. Jesus was a lunatic-a self-deluded Messiah, not necessarily a liar but just crazy.

3. Jesus was God—if neither of the first two is true, then Jesus was indeed who He claimed to be—God!

and the prophesies in the Bible:
"the chance of 1 man fulfilling just 8 Old Testament prophecies has been calculated at 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000 '(one hundred million billion - a number which is millions times greater than the total number of people who have ever walked the planet !). If you took this number of silver dollars , they would cover the state of Texas 2 feet deep. If you marked one silver dollar among the, then had a blindfolded person wander the whole state and bend down to pick up 1 coin, what would be the odds he'd choos ethe one that was marked? This is the same odds that anyone in history could have fulfilled just 8 of the prophecies ! The probability of fulfilling 48 prophecies was one chance in a trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion, trillion ! That's one chance in a 1 followed by 157 zeroes!" -http://www.suffering.net/bibtru.htm

Well, to answer your last question first, I think that there is a truth out there that is beyond our desires or our imaginations. We do not make our own reality by practicing what is "right for us". We can make a set of religious practices on that, but truth is truth and although we can't always be certain of the truth, we *can* be certain that there *is* a truth.

Also, I want to agree with part of your sentiment. I believe there is a serious problem with relgions teaching that everyone outside their beliefs is wrong and therefore deserves some sort of ridicule or punishment. It takes a foolish amount of ego to think that you have a monopoly on truth. (Said another way, many religions have a kernal of truth in their beliefs.)

While we can't be certain in this life, I think it should be said that there are things that *do* matter and that *should* be done and learned and discussed *before* we die.

This is why in Co-Masonry (and I think in Freemasonry in general) we do not allow discussions or disputes about religion into the Lodge.

We are like blind men and the elephant in the Sufi parable: we all grasp what is at hand, but none of us can comprehend The Ineffable.

Please, let us stop killing each other over our limited understanding of The Supreme Being we adore! Can't we just stop that?

Peace,
A Master Mason

You're right - maybe we don't know for sure. But I mean, when you look at a physical object, you know for sure it is there, because it appeals to your senses (you can see/touch it and maybe even hear/taste/smell it.) That is one way we are "sure" of something.

For those who do follow a religion, and do it because they are sure, is because they understand that some things that exist don't meet all five senses. Like wind, we can feel it, but we can't always necessarily see it, yet feeling it is enough for us to be sure it's there. There are emotions that we can feel deep down, but we can't really say where they come from, where they are located, and what they look/smell/taste/sound like.

Do you kind of get where I'm going with this? :) Basically, for me, believing in God means beleiving in quite a few of the "unseen" things like God Himself, the Angels, the Divine Decree (destiny,) the Prophets, etc. I believe in them because they appeal to my senses but without sight, touch, etc. I just feel that they are logical. I don't think it's right to say everyone else has no right to their own opinion, but if someone asks for my opinion, then that is it. :) And I definitely hope everyone can reach a place where they are as sure as I am about something, that's what matters. :)

I think that Jesus Christ walked this earth by wittiness of thousands, His wisdom and knowledge of the word of God was flawless,His works of healing and Resurrection of Lazarus are renown, His own sacrificial death for Gods children's salvation was witnessed by thousands, a minimum of 500 is recorded to have witnessed His Resurrection from death, again in his Ascension to Heaven. The "Bible" and all it contains is backed up by the ancient "Dead Sea Scrolls" and many other antiquities of Holy Scripture. The "Word" The Bible which is The Word of God, Who was in the flesh Jesus Christ our Messiah and Savior; This Bible has survived the ages as a testament of Gods Commandments and instructions through divinely inspired prophets and men to whom God in trusted the task of recording the record for posterity. As time unfolds the prophesies continue to manifest! So I for one think that religions all have faults as do people, because they are man made, So I think we need to trust the word that we have had through the ages, ask God to enlighten our hearts and minds to understand the wisdom's and live our lives within the guidelines He instructed, when Jesus returns He shall come to judge the living and the dead. So until then I will just Believe and trust in love.

Religions divide people as people focus on the differences.
Religion is the ultimate peer pressure: Believe as I believe.

The odds of any one religion being THE religion are nill. Modern religions have merged and evolved through politics. If there were a true religion it is probably something practiced by Pigmies in South America.

So, I believe what you suggest. Keep your religion to yourself and realize that what you believe in may not even be true. Focus on what is common among religions: being a good person.

religion in general is FAITH BASED, so no one knows "for sure". that is the whole point. if it was FACTUAL, then why bother? it is all about the FAITH in a certain deity. if everything was explained, then we would only have ONE religion in the world & EVERYONE would be followers... so what would be the point?

it depends upon whether the religion you choose is the right religion or not! (or for the atheists- whether religion even matters) the thing is, all religions are faith based, so if you don't have the faith in it, then you aren't a follower.
