do you always have a feeling of guilt, even though you don't have anything to feel guilty about? Just wondered...I do and some other people who are catholic or grew up catholic have said they feel the same way so just wanted to know if maybe that was what we all had in common.

I live in the bible belt of West Texas so it isnt exactly too easy to try to venture off into another religion without getting poked at. I am not anti Christian, but I am dissatisfied with what little impact it has had on my life. I have tried to be the "good" Christian and it seemed to never help me. After researching Buddism, I feel that it may have more of a positive effect on me than Christianity. For those that have converted, how has the change impacted your way of life? What does it take to convert? Thank you!!

When he hung the "king of the jews" sign, was it an act of respect and fear due to his wife's dream and his apprehension in and reluctance to sentence Jesus to death or was it just a pure act of mockery? I always just considered it an act of mockery and that is how it is typically portrayed, but the other day the thought came to me in reading The conversation between the two again that Pontious may have been quite haunted if not moved by the words of Jesus. Almost as if he sensed something about Him. Then the sign could have had a whole different intent. I don't know . It was just a thought I had that made sense to some extent in the context of interpretation of scripture. What do you think? What's your opinion? Thanks.

I was talking to a woman on-line for 6 months, I lived in Canada and she in England. It seemed ok and even got to the point virtual sex was initiated on-line. She said she was my woman and also wanted me to live with her in England, get a job etc. The real crunch was when we met in person nothing seemed to be familiar in the way we tried to relate as if we were both sort of strangers. I noticed it and she mentioned it, we felt the other person wasn't the same person anticipated. We just didn't feel close sexually or emotionally.

The UN Declaration of Human Rights Article 18 states: "Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief..." Yet there are member nations whose laws criminalize evangelism, and or make conversion from the majority religion to another religion a crime, in some cases punishable by death. Shouldn't we insist that UN member's legal systems uphold the UN Declaration of Human Rights and insist on the expulsion of and international sanctions against those who do not? At the very least they should lose voting rights in the General Assembly and Security Council, as well as any positions of authority. Should any country that violates these most basic human rights have a vote in or authority in the United Nations? What do you think?

It took me a long time to shake of the mind control mechanisms of religion. If God exists, and is truth, its not in his interest to diter you from reading the theories of atheists or studying evolution, but of course, its most certainly against the interests of religion for any research to happen outside the hand holding of the religious leaders.

Dont get me wrong, I grew up in a Catholic school system where I was exposed to evolution and theories that rebut religion...out of fear of censorship, I am not directly referring to the eastern religion which closes off all reason and thought and threatens the very lives of those who consider anything but their horrific religion.

He was married to his first wife for 25 years. She was 15 years older than him. At a time when he could have taken as many wives as he wanted (before the three that Islam set) he stayed only with her.

After she died he took on other wives.
The wife that raises eyebrows was 9 when they became engaged. He did not marry her until after her status of a woman came when she was 11 and had her menstral cycle. When a girl reached child bearing age she could be married.
Think of it this way as well: This was nearly 1500 years ago-- yet in some southern states right here in the US-- girls can marry at 13 years of age. Right here in our country in the present day.

His 10 other wives ranged in ages from 17-37, 6 of them were widows, one of them a freed slave, 2 of them were divorced and many of them had children from previous marraige. He lived in a time when women were property, and men would never consider to marry a woman who had been divorced, widowed, or already had children

Do you not make the choice to come to this section? Do you not choose to click on the link, read, and answer the question? Please explain how we are "forcing it down your throats" when you make the choice to participate or not.

If you are talking about the world in general, you should at least specify that.

Also, Moira, I have taken your advice and changed my terminology. Your point is valid.

I believe there is a Creative energy involved in our universe, which is not personal but impersonal. Yet we humans strive to better ourselves, is this an evolutionary trait?
Or does this energy influence us?

Please don't talk about "Jesus", as he is irrelevant to this discussion.

I asked the above question previously but then I was thinking after some opf your answers this: If Catholics say that they are just praying to the saints to help get the prayers to God faster then I ask you this... is there the posibility that becasue we have sinned this slows but not prhibits because of Jesus christ our ability to cumicate with him?

I need both the long term causes as well as the events surrounding Luther's break with the Catholic Church.

Also how come Martin Luther was able to successfully challenge the Church when others before him failed?

In particular, what is the meaning of Romans 9:22-24:

"What if God, choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath--prepared for destruction? What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory--even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles?"

Does "prepared for destruction" mean hell, and does "prepared for glory" mean heaven?

The book needs to talk about the similar healings and miracles done between Jesus and Elijah, or Elisha - because the spirit was in him, talk about John the baptist and their relation, and how Elijah is related to the passover, or last supper. Thx.

Ok, so there is this wierd priest ( I will call him Fr. ?)who is probably about 70 and he is retired but sometimes does mass at the local churches. My brother is an altar server and he told me that Fr.? kept hugging him and touching him..not necessarily in an inappropriate manner, but enough to bother him. (BTW, this was after the whole sex-scandal thing w/the priests, so this was very stupid on the priest's part) I told him he was probably just being friendly, but my friend is also an altar server at another church and he said that he felt uncomfortable around Fr.? as well, by being touched and hugged too much in the changing area. This concerned me and I don't know who to talk to if it were to happen again! I am not big into accusations :(

I'm sorry, but I simply don't understand the whole concept. God sends His son to earth, His plan was to let Jesus die, Jesus died...and with that He died for our sins?

Why? What is the message in that? I can think of a million easier ways to let human beings know that they should worship God and to be careful with that sin-thingy.

I can understand that self sacrifice is a part of true Love, but in this case there was no self sacrifice. Jesus just returned to Daddy.

So, can anybody explain to me what the point of this whole drama was?
