If all of your family were taken from you.........Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother and you were left alone, could you still be thankful?

I hear so many Chrisitans stating that they vote Republican due to the pro-choice stance of the GOP. Take the abortion issue out of the equation.

Look at the Biblical principles in terms of taking care of the poor and needy, how Jesus showed example after example of caring for others. When you look at those issues, which political party reflects those teachings? If you don't believe that is the government's responsibility to help others, who should?

Without mentioning my views in the debate between my friend and I, I would like to know that if practicing Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed recieve birthday cake, Christmas candy or gifts, why then are they allowed to accept Christmas bonuses or grocery store gift certificates for Thanksgiving dinner and other things that employers give to employees around the holidays? (Sorry for the run-on sentence). In no way am I saying that they aren't as deserving as any other employee, but I'm very curious. Thank you in advance for your mature answers.

Being thankful has two parts: Who or what we are thankful for and whom we are thankful to. If we are thankful, then there has to be someone to be thanked for it. Some atheists may say, “I will thank nature for it”, but this is not what history teaches us. Our history shows over and over again that the first settlers to this great land were thankful for their many blessings: their families, the land, the food, ECT. And who were they thankful to? God! They praised and thanked God, always!
Our children’s history books may change over time, by slowly removing God from this, but it is wrong and it is incorrect. Removing God, is like erasing a part of our history, an amazing historical event, based on the love of this country and God!
Thanksgiving is about thanking God for our many blessings. This is our history and should remain so for all eternity. Thank God!

I've always been interested in this religious catergory on yahoo, but I have noticed that in the majority of Christian answers you refer to 'The Bible' and most of you clearly mean the New Testament and not the Old Testament.
Do you still have a use for the Old Testament, or do you think it is not the real truth?

Lots and lots of questions here on Y!A begin with "I was raised as one...". Generally "Christian", or "Catholic".

Is "raised as one" the same as BEING one? Why or why not?

Anyone with a half-way developed sense of humor posting in R&s has probably gotten feed-back from him.Like a broken record he endlessly types the phrase "get a life".Are you getting just a little tired of his crap?Let me know what horrible fate you'd like to see him succumb to.

does any one else agree that its about time we scrapped all aspects of religion?? do we really want our future generations to believe theres a man in the sky who watches every1 everything at all times and if u go against him if u ask for forgiveness u will die and go up and live eternally on a cloud up in the sky, personally ive always bin taught to believe in god but the more i try 2 understand it the more i know its nonesense, do u believe that this so-called imaginary god created us or that we evolved (which is a more reasonable answer)? i dont want to offend people by this i just want 2 know if others share my views.

Aren't we created in His image and given free choice? Shouldn't we be looking inward and solving our own problems? How about preventive care so we don't get stuck in the first place? Are humans that incapable?

I cannot make a seperation between myself and the one I am touching. Sometimes when I am healing a migraine that someone has carried with them for days, after I brake my connection with them, I leave with the migraine. There has been times after touching someone I have physically gotten sick. what is something that you can suggest. I have tried creative visualization, and put a light around me for protection while I am touching someone. But for some reason just my doing that it strengthens my connection with them. Do you have any suggestions, or know of any books I can refer to... Thank you

A Tame Diety
Much of the discussion about "my God" my "HP" and "lightbulbs" is an attempt to construct a model of a "tame" deity who is easily controlled and poses no threat to the ego's authority.

I am an ex-atheist who lost my atheism in AA as the result of answered prayer when I prayed on an experimental basis. I think of God as maintaining all life and consciousness. I have learned to meditate and I feel the presence of something that I can only describe as infinite. I do not think that my mind can even begin to comprehend what it, God, is.

The effects of this on me is that I feel that I belong here, that I don't have to apologize for being here and taking up space. I feel that my continued sobriety is evidence of being loved and accepted by the Power that I pray to and I no longer need to depend on the approval of others.

Any good advice to make my friend a believer?
She is 17 I would hate to see her go to hell. She is very sweet, kind, and caring person. I haven't said anything about God to her yet. I'm just waiting for the right time. And I think tomorrow is the right time to tell her about God. I just need help on what to say to her.

Is there anything to stop an athiest or non-theist from lying, other than the fact that he or she does not want to? No threats of hell or eternal damnation? Do you think you lie more or less than the average theist? And for the theists, what is the punishment if you lie? Do you think you lie more or less than the average non-theist?
