I have great respect for Joel Osteen because of his appearance on the View a few months ago. The ladies tried to get him to say bad things about a fellow Christian and he wouldn't even go there. And he didn't go there promoting his own agenda either. I think he is very sincere in his beliefs. And I wish I could find the channel that he is on cause I would like to hear him preach.

i am not a christian but I am answering you anyways. I caught his show one night last week at work, one of the guys i work with is very religious and while getting him ready for bed he had Joel Osteens show on. Most shows like that make me cringe and want to rip out my hair, but he made me laugh by relating real life situations that he and his family go through while preaching his sermon. He injected humor into an otherwise dry and boring subject, in my opinion.

I'm not Christian, ( I use to go to church tho, I was raised Lutheran.) but I occaisonally watch him on Sunday mornings and I do like him. He has good messages & honestly if he were in my area or if someone like him were I would go to church.
I dont know why you are asking for only christian opinions.
I think the reason he is so successful is that he is positive and can talk on a level that people understand & can relate to. I dont want to sit in church & listen to dry & boring or hear what a miserable sinner I am. I want to hear what a good world God created & how I can make it better & how I can improve. I know what my faults are. I think others feel the same way & Osteen's message of hope makes him accessable.

He's one of America's most popular Pastor. Obviously he's very good at preaching the gospel. His style is very positive, and to critics - too forgiving. He followed his father (who was the prev pastor of the church) and became the key Pastor at the Lakewood church. He grew the conggregation from 3,000 to more than 40,000. The church bought out a football stadium just for Sunday worship. The offerings for one year is around $99 million...pretty big numbers. He lives in a $2m house which to some maybe excessive to a Pastor, but to others a small fraction of the church's net worth that he built single-handedly.

Pure in his heart but a weak Christian message. I was disappointed during an Easter Service held at some open air stadium (not where he is at now) and he didn't even mention Jesus dying on the cross or his Resurrection.
He had a feel good message instead, where was Christ in Easter? Because of this I don't listen to him anymore.

I can't judge his heart, only God knows the relationship He has with this man and what the intent of His heart is. . . I can only judge the message- it is not Biblical. I can only pray that God is dealing with him and that he has an obedient and teachable heart and will soon start preaching the true word of God.
When you focus on prosperity, a happy fulfilling life, etc and skip over obedience, God's laws , sin, consequence and repepntence you are not doing any favors forthe body of Christ- it is a huge deception that is only getting bigger. Way too much ear tickling and not enough truth.

When I first started hearing about him, I thought, Oh Brother, here's another one of those feel good, make money preachers. I kept hearing about how he was all about "God wants you to be rich" -- But I've actually sat and listened to him a couple times on an interview and his sermon on tv. I think he has good things to say. He preaches a very one sided message though. He seems to focus on the warm fuzzies and neglects exhortation and confrontation. People still need to be challenged to deal with their sin and move forward in the Kingdom.
He is a charismatic preacher that is speaking truth. I would just like to see a balance. That kind of one sided message, seems to me to make people feel complacent. If everything is so good, why would they need to push forward in the Kingdom??

Yes and anyone that preaches or teaches the word of God is justified and that person has an advocate with the Father and not mankind.

Why do you want only Christian perspective? That strikes me as very peculiar for someone who seeks truth.
