I thought religion was suppose to make one kind. Most religions that I know teach loving and kindness yet the followers are rude to others.

Where did Fonzie get his magic powers? Was he a witch? How come those wacky Evangelical types never tried to censor "Happy Days"?

don't parallel with abortion. Why force it on those who disagree. I personally would never have my girlfriend get an abortion, I'm also atheist. But you don't see me passing a law that says worship is illegal. So why force your beliefs on another through abortion or gay marriage, it makes no sense if we live in a country that preaches freedom of religion, so why?

In Wicca, which is a sub category of Paganism, balance and harmony with all things all highly valued. This would imply kindess and thus many Wiccans interpret it that way, though not all. I think being kind is very important and a strong part of my Pagan religioun. Of course one must be strong as well. One must make it understand that they will not take crap from others. But kindness should be given to those that deserve it. Would love to hear from other Pagans on this.

Why do we need theistic belief systems prescribed to us just so we can know how to treat people?

Ethical behavior is self-evident. You don't do things to people you don't want done to you. Conversely, you treat people how you would prefer they treat you. If you're an adult, you accept that there are consequences to your actions, and consider the ramifacations before you do things. What could be simpler?

You want to know why religion persists? Because people don't want to grow up. People need religion because they need to believe there is a "grown-up" for "grown-ups."

To the anti-choice people who are reading this: You want them all born, no matter what, right? Do you only care until they're born, and after that, who gives a toss? Or are you really only concerned with forcing your beliefs on other people, including pregnant women in bad situations?

And before you answer, please consider that spending on welfare in the U.S. is but a small fraction of what we spend on 'defense'. If you truly are so concerned that every pregnancy be carried through 'til birth, shouldn't you perhaps be willing to help provide for these children through your tax dollars?

I believe once saved we are saved forever. When we confess Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit is sent to live in us. In John 14:16 Jesus said the Holy Spirit sent to us will abide in us forever. For the Holy Spirit to leave us we must lose our salvation and this cannot happen because the Holy Spirit is with us forever. Jesus also said in Matt 28:20 that He is with us always. If Jesus is always with us we cannot lose our salvation. THe Lord Jesus cannot lie therefore we can confidently know that we are saved forever. What do you think?

I've seen people at baseball games and other sporting events praying to God for so and so to hit a home run etc. Does God take sides? Doesn't He have more important things to do than have Carlos Beltran get a bases-loaded hit?

I believe in God and would like to start going to a Christian church. The problem: I have been living with my finance for five years. We have two children together and I want them to grow up knowing God. We live in a very rural area. My boyfriend doesn't really believe in God. I convinced him to try going to church with me and he agreed. When we went we were told that because sex before marriage is wrong if we weren't willing to get married within a month or so we weren't welcomed back. At other churches now it seems everyone is so disapproving that he wont even try any other churches.
My question: Should I wait to go to church until we are married? I would like to be married in a church but hate the feeling of being judged because I made a poor choice to live with someone before being married.
For financial reasons we are waiting another year before getting married. I want a nice wedding, and wont just go to the justice of the peace as the preacher suggested. Any help?
