I thought religion was suppose to make one kind. Most religions that I know teach loving and kindness yet the followers are rude to others.

To Williamzo. It is not true what you wrote. Most the putdowns are not just from the non believers and Muslims. I checked my facts and it seems to me most the put downs are from "believers."

u just asked the question, which i was also thinking to put forward :)
my religion is Islam,n everyone knows even being purest,it's highly criticized,as i analyzed it's b\c media has brainwashed ppl minds,n their extreme hatred n ignorance come forwards.

i recently joined this section n thought,i will be able to learn much more about my religion, but ppl here don't give a chance.every time, when i come up online, there is a question against my religion(if ppl had done so to learn or understand it,then it has been ok,but just to come up false arguements,n spread lies) that's not fair???

i request everyone,if u have faith, please follow ur religion, n let us follow ours

I don't make fun of other religions on the internet or in person. Feel free to check my answers to verify that. I respect other people--whether they are religious or not. But I will agree that some religious people are rude to others with different beliefs. I was simply not raised to be that way. How much more peaceful it would be if all parents taught respect and tolerance.......

too general, "religious people" is a verys general term and includes allot of people who do not "make fun of other..."
Sure there are some in each church who may do that but most churches teach not to mock others so the "religious people" who "make fun of other..." would be 'sinning' I believe that to be the proper term...
Look there are the Hate fulled gay bashers from Topeka and there are Ministers leading flocks of many sizes with love and genuine caring who do not make fun of other religions... You can't see the trees for the forest...(*8*)

Going to church grew popular during the era of The Great Depression.
People were stressed, poor, unemployed and everywhere you go, businesses were going bad.
Crops fell and stocks dropped.
It was horrible not only here, but in different countries around the world.
Church was a place for hope. People went to pray and ask God to guide them through their hardships.
Eventually, people who didn't believe in God found it a reason to get together and socialize.
So many churchgoers are no better than others.
YOU DON't HAVE TO GO TO CHURCH TO BELIEVE IN GOD.

Religion really isn't about kindness, it's about faith and ritual. It's human nature to be biased toward what one believes and against what one doesn't believe or doesn't understand. In order to feel more comfortable with our beliefs, we tend to "cut down" others' opinions to validate our own.

Although the basis of many religions is that of compassion, they are all at their core, teaching that their religion is the one "true" religion, and that kindness, loving, and compassion are for those that hold the same beliefs.

In practice, it just doesn't work; human beings aren't really geared toward altruism.

as sasquatch's daughter,
people are afraid of what they dont understand. their uncertianty leads them to feel that they have to diss other religions to boost their own ego. many religions have phrases i would like to share but the one i think the majority would know is: "if you had the faith the size of a mustard seed, all things would be possible."(or something along those lines) Shows how much we trust our intuition, doesn't it?

IF you would care to check you would find the majority of the "put downs, profanity" comes from the non-believer (and lately from Muslims). Check your facts before you post.

Why does anyone make fun of anyone else? To make themselves feel better at other's expense. Superiority complexes are like that, and are in no way related to religion. YOU SUCK.

See, I feel better already.

Because some religious people think their religion is absolutely right and is threated by the fact of the other religions, so they call them sinners, and tell them they are going to hell etc.
