Why do they claim the Native Americans are decendants of Israelites...

They just keep clutching at straws to legitimize the flimsy premise that Mormon is a true religion. They try to associate real-world tangibles to link up with their invented ancient history. Genealogical research of all American Indian tribes proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is NO relation between Native Americans and the members of a crumbling CULT. Where, I ask you is the archaeological PROOF of the Mormon's monetary system? There is none, because there NEVER was in the first place. It's all a fabrication, smoke and mirrors stuff. The only thing that IS real about Mormons is that they are sure to come pester you and ask you to worship THEIR god, which is NOT the same one that Christian's worship. Check out the documentary called "The God-Makers", it will affect you tremendously. Joseph Smith was a con man who took, and CONTINUES to take, a whole bunch of willing cult-members to the grave with him. The ONLY way to the Father is through the Son. Elohim can scrub my toilet...Jesus is the Way. Peace

You need to do a little more research...
It is true, we believe a group of people from Jerusalem came to the North American continent (notice I said continent, not United States) during biblical times. The Book of Mormon is a history of people who lived on the continent, like the bible is the history of the "old world" the Book of Mormon is the history of the "new world".
Does that mean we believe American Natives are direct decendants of them? Not necessarilay. They could be, we don't know. We don't beleive they were the ONLY people on the continent either...there were many wars during the time period of the Book of Mormon and A LOT of people died, sometimes a whole "tribe" of people, like the Nephites.
Also, at the end of the Book of Mormon, at the end of the recorded history, there was a huge war where hundreds of thousands were killed. You might know this controversy because of where the plates were given the Joseph Smith, at Hill Cumorah. Some believe the battle didn't take place there, just that the plates were hidden there....we don't really know for sure. But that doesn't matter...
Anyways, the church has never made an official declaration saying "Native Americans ARE direct decendants of the people in the Book of Mormon"...just don't worry about it and don't listen to everything you "hear" about the church. Unless it is coming FROM the church, you can pretty much know it will be false.

Talk to some missionaries, they should be able to help you.

Can we assume that you are Native American and feel offended by this? You should not be offended.

The Church does not try to make anyone what they are not, so please do not feel like you are being attacked.

The Americas are a large place from the tip of South America all the way to northern Canada. If you are a native american, congratulations. There are also thousands, if not millions, of others who are also natives of the americas. There are many, many different tribes with different languages, customs, appearances, etc, to include many groups that no longer even exist.

The Book of Mormon never claims that all of the people Native to the Americas are of such heritage, as you indicated. It merely claims that the group who wrote the book were Israelites. The church has never singled out any one particular tribe or group.

I won't even bother to address the other ridiculous answers about us being racist pirates of a crumbling cult.

I hope that this helps and if you would like to discuss this further, please contact me.

Why, what do they try make out of the natives?
I hope not throw rugs.

I have a few mormon friends, and none of them have ever had any problem with my native background, or with my religion, in fact they share a few of the same beliefs, (such as respect and tolerance for other religions, and eating healthly) just under different Gods.
But then again I live in wisconsin where there are very few mormons, and have some different ideas, than traditional mormons in utah from what i gather.

mormons still get a bad rap because of their early history as pirates along the east coast. the mormon pirates were ruthless in those days and would waylay any ship they could find, steal the cargo, make the men walk the plank and take the women as 2nd and 3'rd and sometimes even 4th wives.

the continental congress put a stop to that and authorized several warships to capture and rid the world of the evil mormon pirates. after a long chase the mormon pirates were finally defeated and captured.

they were then exiled to utah---that being as far away from the sea as possible back then. they were left alone out there to marry many wives and do whatever it is they do---except for pirating.

i'm thinking somewhere along the line they dressed up like indians and raided some chicken farms--kinda like the patriots who dressed like indians and dumped British Tea into the ocean--the Boston Tea Party.

I am Australian, the Mormon Church has not really taken off here yet, so I can't answer your question. We have LDS missionaries preaching in shopping malls and on the streets, but they are treated like a running gag.

I have never met a Native American either, except one, so I know little of them, either.

The earliest founders of that religion (actually it is the only religion native to the United States), were ignorant of the Natives and unfortunately as the religion grew converts, their mind was often stuck in the genesis of their faith.

Do some research on the Mormons. Their original prophet was arrested many times for being a con artist and a treasure hunter in New york. They do not believe Jesus is God! People that have a sexual issue ( all of the wives and underage children and other foolishness)they say and do whatever it takes to spin the tale and keep it going for money's sake. A mormon told me that the mormon church owns a lot of the casinos in las vegas! They are about$$$$$

I am an american indian ...what are you talking about? Please describe your question in more detail and why you think so? I am cree indian menominee nation 100%......hmmm I wouldnt know but i have heard other strange theories from other people. ps,,,, no offense but having indian relatives doesnt make a person indian or have an indian backround or what ever, you can say you have native ancestry , but unless you are enrolled in a tribe or you have a full blooded indian parent ..then you are not. No offense but I get insulted that anybody can say they are indian when they are not.
