church going and the story of Jesus as a God in general since I was a child. So my question is: If I had these questions and doubt since I was a child is my non religious attitude built into my gene makeup or learned from others and my enviornment?
Some info:
We did not go to church as children, but had a very Christian up bringing, yes sir, no sir all that, taught respect for others, punished if we even looked like we were going to act as bigots, in other words brought up like Christians just without the church or Bible reading.
Looking for serious answers, has any one else ever had these same questions as a child?

I'm an Atheist and I know exactly why you believe in God.

1. You believe in God because you just can't understand how this big Universe just formed on its own

2. You want to feel safe. A good way to do that is imagine there's a skydaddy keeping you safe

3. You're playing the better safe than sorry game. You figure if you're wrong about the existence of God, you have nothing to lose

4. There's a lot of things you dont understand. So, you just dump everything you dont understand into the God box. That comforts your fear of the unknown

5. You were raised to believe in God. It's more of a culture than a belief. Even if you stop believing. You wont admit it because you can't let go of the culture

6. You can't logically figure out the unexplained experiences you've had. So, you just write them off as God's work

7. You couldn't even take how stupid you would feel to think there's no God and you've been tricked. It's too bad to be true for you.

what do you think about the radical christians who did those protests at the millitary funerals holding signs sayng your going to hell and god hates you and do other like that. I'm christian myself and that seems so unchristian. As christians we were taught to love everybody no matter race, religion, nationality, or wheather they gay or not

The story of Noah's Arc says that the Christians' God flooded the world for 40 days and nights, killing everything that wasn't on the arc. Doesn't this break the commandment of Thou shall not kill? And doesn't this qualify the Christians' God of mass murdering?

**Disclaimer** If it doesn't apply, don't take it to heart, I know there are true Christians who accept and love anyone

Thank you all so very much for your answers..I've read each one (32 I think) My question was about Mormons and if there would be any way for unity with main stream Christians/Catholics etc..the BIG tent of Jesus.

I really appreciate all of your wonderful thought's. I was rasied in a main line Protestant Church but all my friends were Catholic..I played Catholic football and we all got along very well, I never knew there was a difference other than they had a statue of Mary out front and we had a cross...but we were all just Jesus people in my neighborhood.

I just hate the way we see Mormon's..it just doesn't feel right in my spirit...it makes me feel ugly. My heart is just so broken over this...I know they believe in God, Jesus the bible..they have the book of Mormon that I don't believe to be from the Lord...but I hate the word "Cult" slapped on them. I guess I just hope somehow that grace will cover this...I don't know.

God Bless You all!

CHRISTIANS ONLY PLEASE! I think it does somewhere, and I'm trying to convince me friend that homosexuality is wrong. And if someone's gay, it's as bad a sin as killing someone. She wants a specific verse though. And I can't find one anywhere.

Christians, why do you think when Atheists tell the truth about your belief, it means we're being bitter?
Is it because the harsh truth makes you feel bittter?

If the harsh truth made us Atheist bitter, we wouldn't be Atheist
