My friend whose husband is in Iraq is overwhelmed and battling depression. We were talking and she asked me “How can I be happy?”
Wow.
I thought about it and said maybe if we identify your happiness we can work backwards to attain it, Hmmmm.
So it got me thinking about happiness. Definitions of happiness. The vague concept of being happy. What makes us happy? Maybe by identifying our happiness we can attain it, and spread our joy or maybe once we identify our desires we realize it’s been under our nose this whole time.
So what would make you happy?
For Christians would it be a global enlightenment of God and Christianity?
For Non-Christians would it be for understanding and tolerance?
For all of us would it be a bit of both?
Is it less abstract and more discernable?
A new house, car, etc.?
For me?
I am based in love I am afraid. It would be being with someone I loved (I am so sappy!) But you?
Write what you want, whisper in my ear if it’s not what you wrote, but think about it and be happy. Identify it.

What makes you happy?

Especially Revelations and the first 5 books of the old testament. Very negative stuff. Very belligerent.

The waterworks for my city shut the water off for a few hours, so I didn't have any other option. My house would have burnt down if I hadn't taken action. The book really smells now.

You know how kids are-let um and they will try to get away with anything-so this lil lamb shows up to his first day of school and being he is a foreigner he gets teased right away-and whenever the class is asked a question he puts his hand up and answers correctly everytime-and a funny thing too is HE WASN"T TEACHING THE NEW TESTAMENT but learning the 1st. Now Class-JeZus is going to give us a report on America-Oh that Columbus guy you told us about hasn't been born yet-so actually class JeZus is going to discuss his Theory about The World Being Round-Oh Columbus again-so maybe JeZus didn't go to school-Wait-he became a Carpenter like his father Joseph-Did he teach Joseph? No-so how did Joseph Teach JeZus-who as GOD KNOWS EVERYTHING? OH-now this is getting interezting-and what's more with all the things that JeZus can do-WHY DID HE HAVE TO WORK? He could make everything his family needed-GeeZe-I sit here making a few assertations and discover that JeZus is hardly worth being studied!

I'm not trying to convince you of anything, so don't worry, lol. I only seek knowledge.

Of all the Q&A's about atheism or from atheists I have read, although I may have missed quite a few that relate to my question, it seems that atheists always reject God through the Christian concept of Him. What I am wondering is if you reject the entire world's differing views of God, or just specific ones?

I want to point out that Christianity, Islam and Judaism are not the only religions that believe in a Creator or supreme being as these ideas have been found in Hinduism, Buddhism, native religions, etc, as well.

Thanks for your answers, and again, I have no alterior motives, lol, just a knowledge seeker.

Please don't answer with "because it's the truth" or "because the bible tells me to" or "becuase I have been brainwashed into believing it". Please don't quote scriptures. Please don't say that it's because you go to hell if you don't believe.

Please just give the honest truth why YOU believe, without mentioning any of the above.

THANKS!!

I understand that the Jewish community considers a child to be Jewish if their mother is Jewish. However, how far back does that go? For example my wife's maternal great-grandmother was Jewish, however my wife, her mother, and grandmother are all pseudo-Christian. According to what I have read, the Jewish lineage applies regardless of whether the individual was a practicing Jew. Therefore, would my daughter be considered to be Jewish?

I ask b/c my daughter will be attending a Jewish pre-school (just b/c it is the best in the area I had no idea about the lineage before enrolling her), and I would be more apt to reinforce the cultural aspects of Judaism she is exposed to through her class.

As my wife and I are now Unitarian, we are excited about her exposure to different religions and cultures, but it would be even more special if she were, in fact, culturally Jewish.

Any clarification you could lend me would be great.

For example, I keep seeing people say "I'd rather believe, just in case, so I don't end up in hell". Why not choose to believe in Hinduism, or Allah or any of 30 other religions to avoid their version? Is it because the Christian version of hell sounds much worse? Is it a familiarity and omnipresence of the religion in the society you grew up in? What made you choose one over another? Can you honestly say you made an educated decision and "shopped around" for your religion or did you take the first thing presented to you?

Who is your god? This is of course NOT a religion question, but since it IS IN THE QUESTION, I thought I would put it here.
I DO NOT intend this to be blasphemous, or a knock against any religion. The shirt just piqued my curiosity. Have a great day.

I assume that you pray. Well, think back to the recent times when you have. Were you wearing a head covering, like a veil or a scarf? If not, you have violated Scriptural instructions!

Read I Corinthians 11:5-6. It says that a woman who prays without a head covering should be shorn.

You know you've broken the rule. So go, right now, and cut off all your hair! You don't want God mad at you!

[Don't tell me that this was just for back then. God's word is eternal!]

Tom Cruise is? In retrospect do you think that he should have kept his mouth shut about all of that psychiatry hating, placenta eating, silent birth spouting, Katie Holmes loving nonsense? Despite being a celebrity that does not give him the right to proselytise, and John Travolta [also one of your people] doesn't act in the same way!
