Because it threatens our right to have a separation between Church and state.
Excellent link, BTW, I've added it to my favorites.

In a few very short years you will know what is real and what is not.
You think because it doesn't happen instantly, that it hasn't started to happen..
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Rev 6:4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.

It forces people to look within themselves and to make a comparison....what is being taught as TRUTH VS what I am doing. When those things oppose each other, we become uncomfortable.
It also puts us in "defense" mode. Face it, if you do not know the Bible, you cannot defend the Bible against false teaching. You cannot even support the Right teaching. WE are uncomfortable out of out league.

personally I love it when someone can share their beliefs with me, the only problem that I have is when the people that are proselytizing refuse to answer the tough questions and can only answer with "because" and "it just is" or when they refuse to listen to what I have to say.
I know a lot of people who will preach, telling people they will go to hell and that they are bad people because they haven't accepted their religion. Would you want to listen to someone who berated you?
I believe the best way to spread the word is to show your religion by your acts and share with people that you couldn't have done the things that you do without your belief in your particular deity. Don't get angry or put down the people...who would want to join a religion that makes them feel bad
Preach it! Live it! Love it!
Blessed Be...
Oh and by the way...I'm a pagan who believes that Jesus was a great man of peace.

It interrupts the *broadcast of whatever prevailing thing is in their lives ... most opposers usually bunny-hop to wherever the evangelist is having the meeting ... which is a bit dopey ... 'don't want to hear ?...don't go ... '

Because the Name of Jesus Christ does carry real power and authority, and some people can't stand that.
