Like McDonald's, Burger King, Jack in the Box, Wendy's and Carl's Jr., are Judaism, Christianity, and Islam different franchises of a profitable business? In the case of the former, the business is selling burgers. In the case of the later, is the business selling influence? Do these religions enable ideological authorities in leadership positions sell their influence over communities of faithful believers to a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that prey upon the many of our global culture? Is selling influence for profit what these religions have in common? If you agree, then what do you propose should be done about this, if anything? Is it harmless or are communities of faithful believers lead by influence peddlers helping to lead the global culture as a whole to run a race to Armageddon orchestrated by a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that seek to generate greater profits from the sale and manufacture of the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex?

Personally I think that Bible is the biggest load of garbage and codswallop ever written by man, and I’m sure it will go down in history as the greatest load of gobbledygook ever to inflict such traumatic mental and physical damage on humanity, but still today, some people sadly believe the Bible to be true. That’s very sad indeed. Very sad.

Take self-mutilation in the Bible, is this wrong or what?

Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Matthew5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.

Perhaps people can understand why so many religions are nothing more than savage cults, because this practise still goes on today. Even women get stoned to death in some countries for having an affair or fling with some sexy guy.

God is identified as being jealous to the point that he is named Jealous:
Ex 2:5: & Deu 5:6 "...for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God..."
Ex 34:14: "...for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God"
Deu32:16: "They provoked him to jealousy with strange gods..."

Yet, jealousy is identified as a sin in the bible:
Prov 6:16-18: "These six things doth the Lord hate... A proud look... an heart that deviseth wicked imaginations... and he that soweth discord among brethren."
Prov 6:34: "For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance..."
SoS 8:6: "...jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire..."
Job 5:2: "For wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one."
Prov 14:30: "A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones."
There are many other references to envy & jealousy in the bible. Doesn't that make the Christian view of God that of a sinful being?

These are the words I prayed for so long, and still I do not know God the way in which I want to. I'm a christian, and there have been times where I feel God close to me - but why not now?

So, what are some buzzwords you've heard? Personally I'm tired of hearing "persecute." Well, Christians have a persecution complex, the blacks were slaves, and athiests are despised in this country, but we all use the same word to mean different things that are ambiguous! What's your most reviled buzzword? Feel free to spout more than one.

If you luv buzz words, then by all means, say "I love buzzwords, using emotion and ambiguity in a rational arguement is for the win!" (or something less demeaning, if you'd prefer to not be silly)

P.S. This really isn't a religion question, it's more like philosophy, but oh well.

I always get most answers to questions in the "religion" category. I wonder, why. Don't think this is representative of the world at large.

When it comes to ancient Egyptian, Greek or Roman gods no one believes in them anymore so everyone is atheist to those gods. And any god today that isn't from your region you don't believe in so that makes you an atheist to those gods too. So everyone is an atheist it’s just some of us go 1 god further. Why don't you?
