Personally I think that Bible is the biggest load of garbage and codswallop ever written by man, and I’m sure it will go down in history as the greatest load of gobbledygook ever to inflict such traumatic mental and physical damage on humanity, but still today, some people sadly believe the Bible to be true. That’s very sad indeed. Very sad.
Take self-mutilation in the Bible, is this wrong or what?
Matthew 5:29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
Matthew5:30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell.
Perhaps people can understand why so many religions are nothing more than savage cults, because this practise still goes on today. Even women get stoned to death in some countries for having an affair or fling with some sexy guy.

Nice bit of writing. The believers will be all stirred up on this comment. It is all about hoops, rules, laws and much much more to conform to and I echo your thoughts.

Maybe in order to prevent the Bible from going down in history as the greatest load of gobbledygook ever, a mercenary plutocratic predatory few that preys upon the many of our global culture will have to impoverish the many to the point where the Bible makes sense again.
Maybe those who have the guns take the gold, those who have the gold make the rules, those few who make the rules make an education system so bad that the many have little chance of acquiring the guns required to take the gold and make the rules. Maybe the root cause of terrorism is greed. Maybe terrorism has a tendency to become self perpetuating because mercenary plutocratic predators profit from supplying demand for protection services created by terrorist activities. Is it wise for the many give their gold in exchange for protection services and allow the wealth of a nation to concentrate into the hands of a mercenary plutocratic predatory few? Were the many proceeding us wise in taxing the mercenary plutocratic predatory few heavily? Did the many before use the revenue raised from taxing the mercenary plutocratic predatory few heavily to redistribute wealth and thereby provide to the many a better means of defending themselves against terrorist attacks orchestrated by a mercenary plutocratic predatory few seeking to sell the products and services of a beast of a military industrial complex?

Sin really mean an offensive act which will bring retribution, such as not going to heaven but to hell after we die. Therefore, self-mutilation must be looked it with the intention behind that act. Is this act offensive and harming self and others. If it is, which is usually the case, then it is a "sin."

In Leviticus, it states that one cannot cut him/herself for the dead "28 You shall not make any gashes in your flesh for the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the LORD." I guess the other stuff is okay then!
I don't know of anyone who actually pokes out his eyes for looking at pornography, or chops of his hand for "sinning" while looking at it!
I do think that the people who read the Christian Bible as literal truth inspired by god should start following these rules. They are in the NT, so it's not canceled out like the OT/HB is through Jesus, or however it's argued. I would like to see more Christians following their own rules and regulations!

First of all, the scripture you quoted is a metaphor. It means if something is causing you to sin then get rid of it cause it's better to be rid of it then have it cause you to sin.
Secondly, yes, self-mutilation is a sin to a Christian. Christians believe that to be "saved" you have to ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, when He does that part of the trinity,(Father, Son Holy Ghost) the Holy Ghost, comes to live in your heart...He's kinda like your conscience. When the Holy Ghost lives in you, you become a temple of Christ. There is no one great building for a temple for Jesus now, each Christian in a temple to Christ. Thus by hurting yourself you would be destroying the temple of Christ and that is a sin. As far as non-Christians...well, I think there's something seriously wrong if you want to hurt yourself. Find another way to channel your feelings.

May God Almighty bless you and give you wisdom to understand the word of God. Jesus Christ who is the son of God paid the penalty for the sins of the world, you and me and everyone. God loves you.
