Why are Freemasons accepted within the church? Some even hold positions within church! How can this be when they have taken oaths to eachother, and sworn to secrecy, and are practicing ritual that can be traced back to Egyptian and other occult practices. I can't for the life of me understand how you can be both a Christian, and a Mason or affiliate (ie: Eastern star)

Oh, and is not the Eastern star symbol strikingly similar to that of the sign of Baphomet, that the Knight's Templar used to symbolize Satan? I don't know, just putting 2 and 2 together and getting 4, but tired of people trying to convince me it really equals 5. Can someone explain this to me?

Today when I was watching the news I heard that it has been proved by scientific studies that people who have a religion or believe in a higher power are less prone to depression and anxiety in difficult conflicts since they have more hope in a higher power.

What is your opinion?

Me as a Christian I have suffered from depression in the past. There are times when I feel down as a normal human being, but now I don't experience depression like I did years ago. If I feel upset, it's for a couple of days or a week, and that cant be classified as depression, not like before where it lasted for long periods of time. I have tough about taking pills before but I think that God has kept me from staying away from them, and I have been thinking more positively.

God works differently on people so I can't speak for everyone. This was on the news and is not the first time I hear it, and that is proof enough for me.

What do people who say they are Apostolic Pentecostal believe
I have an uncle who is Apostolic. I just moved near him and he is trying to get me to go to his curch (hes the preacher there). I am just trying to find out what they believe because I can tell they are different ythan most churches. Not saying different is a bad thing just want to know what sets them apart from other churches
To be more spacific, his church is a United Pentecostal Church

The violent troubles around our world are clearly associated with various religious factions. Scientists have published details about the “warrior” gene and the “spiritual or religious” gene which shows that certain people are genetically predisposed to violence and/or religion. Scientists have also published that religion could be the result of mental illness. This makes sound sense in our deeply troubled world.

It’s also a well known fact that intellectually handicapped people are often quoted as being the happiest people in the world. They are so blissfully unaware of the true world around them, and see and believe reality to be quite different in their mental worlds.

Are religious people blessed with a similar “handicapped” gift which would could explain why the see and believe in the imaginary world of religion, God and the Bible. Are religious people also blissfully unaware of reality in their mentally handicapped world? This could help, explain their irrational behaviour.

Happened to me , no tunnel or whatever but the whitest light ever , and while it happened you knew everything ..without having to think . It was awesome but I've never had it again...it was like being connected to a heaven , and I'm not the most spiritual guy around generally . I'm also not the type that would necessarily believe others if they told me of a similar experience either . I'm only telling you because I'll never meet you and I also wonder if others out there may have had similar experiences. I'd like to experience it again because it felt more real than this life ..and also felt like my real home .

I want to know if I am wrong about something. My mother read in the bible that all women should be silenced and that they should listen to their men. Since she read that she has been letting her husband abuse her because she thinks that she is supposed to. I told her that women have equal rights the same as men do. I was wondering if I am wrong for getting upset at her for following that phrase in the bible even though she is losing all of her self-respect. Any advice would be appreciated.

1. - Love god, and follow the commandments - Luke 10:25-28

2. - Sell everything and become a disciple - Luke 18:18-22

3. - Hate your whole family - Luke 14:26-33

(How do you honour father and mother, and hate them too?)

4. - Eat Jesus Flesh and drink his blood - John 6:53-54

5. - Change and become little children - Matthew 18:2-3

6. - Be born again (and a bunch of weird stuff about "where does the wind come from? duh) - John 3:3-8

7. - "Unless your righteousness surpasses that of the pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven" - Matthew 5:17-20
-Have you followed the Mitzvot, the 613 laws of old testament?

8. - Believe in Jesus - John 3:16

As you see, John 3:16 just isn't enough. You must fullfill all 8 obligations. If you don't, why did jesus mention them?

Especially the Mitzvot. Have you had your shellfish today?

These passages are NOT out of context. How can anyone possibly justify the incongruent ramblings of jesus?

"I like your Christ. I do not like your Christians. They are so unlike your Christ."

Is it still applicable today?

Please, no flamewars - be respectful, regardless of which camp you're in.

A long time ago in CCD class we learned this certain set of rules, I think there were 7 or 9 of them-- some of them were:

Feed the poor
Clothe the needy
Care for the sick
Visit the imprisoned

...does anyone know where in the Bible this set of instructions is found?

I am reading this story about a woman, right now I am not going to reveal the conflict of the story because I am going to make a question about that topic in the future when I finish reading the book.

In her childhood she was put in a boarding school were she was beaten and punished by the Sisters(nuns). When she once asked to the school matron if she truly believed in God, instead of answering the question, she was slapped in the face. She told the girl to get on her knees and pray for forgiveness for asking that question and she felt she was doomed to hell because she questioned the existence of God. She grew up feeling like if God was a vengeful monster that would come as a thief in the night and would take the righteous with him and burn the wicked. She started to distance herself from God.

This is the beginning of the story so I still don't know if her opinion of God changed. I sometimes wonder if the people who have a lot a hate toward God were put in this environment

what are the chances that our galaxy could come into being without one species just dying because of bad genetics, without one plant dying because the way it was created, without one BACTERIA just dying for no reason, what are the chances that our whole world was created without one thing wrong with it?"
